Your Role:

As the Paint Manufacturing Engineer, you’ll be working with some of the industry’s brightest minds as the subject matter expert in the electrocoating painting process.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a complete electrocoating process for the FF electric car. Ensure process utilizes the best practices in the industry and meets the world class requirements of FF.
  • Work with process equipment suppliers to ensure developed electrocoat process is designed, engineered, and commissioned successfully in the FF Hanford plant.
  • Manage programs in all aspects of equipment design, engineering, and commissioning to ensure project launches on-time and in budget.
  • Work with paint suppliers to ensure the electrocoat materials are compatible with the process equipment and the FF electric car. Work with FF environmental engineers to ensure all air permits are granted by the air district. Work with FF body design engineers to ensure the FF body is compatible with the equipment and materials.
  • Perform Design of Experiments (DOE) to validate and develop process parameters for the process. Utilize the PFMEA and control plans to ensure product quality.
  • Assist Hanford assembly plant with the development of process work instructions.
  • Support all aspects of the launch of the FF Hanford paint shop (top coating, sealing, fixturing, etc.). Report out progress to FF management teams.
  • Knowledge in Pretreatment and E-Coat
  • Achieve the defined volume, visual appearance quality, costs, and safety objectives
  • Develop and implement Paint PFMEA standards, policies, and Process/Quality Control Plans. Forge excellent cross functional relationships with engineering, suppliers, quality, and manufacturing (Stamping & General Assembly)
  • Coordinate launch activities and part trials with Production & Engineering. Conduct production trial runs in addition to special projects related to safety, productivity, 5s, lean manufacturing, visual management
  • Identify, trial and implement any new tools, equipment and processes that could improve quality and manpower efficiency. Effectively manage and balance safety, quality, throughput, cost, and people to provide maximum value to the customer and the company
  • Fluent with equipment & process planning, budget process and simultaneous engineering activities. Knowledge of paint equipment & layouts
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of all necessary documentation for new product launches and generate SOS/BOM/Recipe. Collect and analyze various coating data for improvements. Support operations on departmental Key Performance Indicators
  • Troubleshoot and support problems and opportunities in the related areas and define, structure, plan, and implement improvement projects to satisfy Division, Group and Corporate objectives related to coating operations
  • Develop and implement training programs for production associates as needed. Passion to continuously improve and maintain the process. Experience with driving standard methods and procedures. Adhere to all EPA, IDNR and OSHA regulations
  • Help maintain wastewater compliance with city codes
  • Comply with Environmental Management System per ISO-14001 requirements
  • Able to read and interpret customer specs pertaining to e-coat requirements
  • Train and/or assist training other paint technicians to successfully operate and maintain the system in accordance with this job description and company policies
  • Lead or assist in developing, implementing, and updating written operations, procedures and inspection standards for all paint systems
  • Solve and/or assist in solving production, quality, and health, safety and environmental problems to ensure optimal production efficiency
  • Produce timely, neat, and accurate reports documenting paint and wastewater treatment system performance
  • Encourage safety and good housekeeping practices and lead by example, including wearing specified personal protective equipment
  • Operate computer and software necessary to monitor system parameters
  • Promote and facilitate Open Door process, effective communication, and Fair Treatment
  • Participate in Continual Improvement activities
  • Adhere to customer requirements, Business Operating System, and company policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor (BS) degree in engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive electrocoating industry, preferably as a Manufacturing Process Engineer.
  • Experience in other electrocoating industries will be considered.  Experience in high volume, automotive painting will be considered.
  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of the spray equipment, process, and chemicals must be demonstrated either through on the job performance, certification, or through vendor training programs
  • Must be willing to travel to supplier locations domestically and internationally as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification.
  • Experience with cathodic electrodeposition coatings and wastewater treatment for cathodic electrodeposition coating.
  • A creative curiosity, collaborative ethic, hardworking enthusiasm, and driving personal vision.

Annual Salary Range:

($100k - $125k), plus benefits and incentive plans
