Summary

This position is located in the El Centro Field Office in El Centro, CA.

The BLM El Centro Field Office manages approximately 1.4 million acres of public lands spread across two counties: Imperial and San Diego. Approximately 95% of the public lands lie within Imperial County.

  • This is a career seasonal position. You will be in pay status for at least 6 months, but less than 12 months per calendar year. When work and/or funds are unavailable, you will be placed into non-pay status.
  • This position is included in a bargaining unit. The National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE), Local 2052, is the exclusive representative of all employees in this bargaining unit.
  • You MUST currently possess NREMT EMT certification (if outside CA) or current California state EMT license.
  • With in 60 days of your entry on duty date, you MUST be accredited and licensed with Imperial County Local Emergency Medical Services Agency
  • You must pass a pre-employment physical.
  • This is a Drug Testing Designated Position. You will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use and pass prior to appointment. This position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.

Qualifications

Selective Placement Factors: This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. Those who do not provide evidence (EMT Certification) they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified:
  • Must possess a current National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT), EMT or higher-level, certification, by the close date of this announcement. You MUST provide your certificate/card in your application.
OR
  • Must possess a current and valid California State EMT License and Certification. You MUST provide your certificate/card in your application.
In addition to NREMT Emergency Medical Technician Certification, applicants will be required to obtain a California State EMT license, and accreditation with Imperial County Emergency Medical Services Agency (LEMSA) within the first 60 days of employment.

Applicants with a current and valid California State EMT License will be required to obtain accreditation with Imperial County Emergency Medical Services Agency (LEMSA) within the first 60 days of employment.

INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT - PARK RANGER SERIES (OHV)

You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples:

Specialized Experience: Experience that demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Park guide or tour leader.
  • Law enforcement or investigative work.
  • Archeological or historical preservation research work.
  • Forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area.
  • Management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations.

Graduate Education: 1 full year of Graduate education related to the occupation or the superior academic achievement.

Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

Physical Demands: The work is performed mostly outdoors in rugged terrain; to include very steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces. The position requires physical exertion such as, but not limited to, driving over unpaved roads, walking over rough terrain or inclines, standing for long periods of time, bending, crouching and stooping, digging, hiking, lifting, biking, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Work may involve early morning hours, night hours, or daytime hours and may require working on holidays. It can require carrying heavy backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, or other loads.

Work Environment: Most work will be performed out of doors, in all types of weather conditions, terrain, and elevations.
Work may take place in an extremely remote environment and may require primitive camping and living
skills for upwards of two weeks in duration. Indoor duties are performed in a normal office setting.
