Company Overview

Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.

Job Summary

As a Communications Intern, you will work on the Marketing Communications team to help tell stories that connect stakeholders with Kairos Power’s mission. We are looking for a creative, proactive and enthusiastic intern with a solution-oriented mindset who has the ability to change course quickly in a high-paced environment and can support us 15-25 hrs/week, split between remote & Albuquerque in-office work. This is an excellent opportunity for a savvy undergraduate or graduate student with a passion for communications. 

What you will do:

  • Document company events and achievements through stories and interviews to be shared both internally and externally
  • Create weekly internal media bulletins
  • Help maintain and update media contact lists
  • Collaborate on presentations for management and outward facing meetings
  • Draft communications materials, including social media posts, presentations, and company-wide emails
  • Help organize logistics for events and conferences, maintain calendar for company-wide events
  • Research, edit, write, and design content for internal channels
  • Support communications for new employee onboarding
  • Conduct and compile new research to support public outreach
  • Capture photos and video footage within Kairos Power facilities and at external events

What you need to bring:

  • Education: 3+ years of education in Communications, Science Communication, Journalism, English, or related field of study
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Good storyteller, both written and visual
  • Understanding of scientific communication
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint
  • Proficiency in WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite is highly desirable
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and adapt quickly to change while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Works well with others with the ability to build trust within the team and work effectively in a highly collaborative environment
  • Skilled at planning, organizing, prioritizing, and executing simultaneous projects and activities

Physical Conditions

  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps, and the like
  • Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Communicating with others to exchange information

Environmental Conditions 

  • General office environment
  • Outdoor environment or elements such as precipitation and wind 
  • Noisy, industrial environments
  • Odors or fumes from chemicals or chemical reactions

Safety and PPE 

  • Reading and interpreting hazardous warning signs
  • Reporting issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
  • Color identification: detecting, distinguishing, recognizing and identifying colors
  • Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes

Travel 

  • Some travel may be required (5-10%)
