Who You'll Work With:

We are looking for a Participant Communications Associate within our Defined Contribution (DC) Business Development team. The DC Business Development team works to position and support AB's investment services to workplace retirement plans (i.e., 401(k) plans) of all of sizes in the US. In this role, the candidate would assist the Director of Participant Communications in servicing the varied audiences who play a role in corporate and public retirement plans including, but not limited to the employees of the organization that offers the plan (known as plan participants), the plan sponsors and the financial intermediaries. This person would also help to disseminate relevant content (product specific as well as value-add) internally to the teams that support these different audiences.

As one of the largest managers of custom target-date funds and a pioneer in retirement income solutions for institutional DC plans, the Participant Communications Associate will play a key supporting role in assisting our plan sponsor clients with customizing participant communications programs to meet their unique needs. The Associate will be responsible for supporting all aspects of the delivery of our participant communications services to our clients, including the development of customized materials, fact sheets and websites, fulfillment of ad-hoc requests, and assisting in our long-standing plan sponsor and participant research. The goal is to create a simplified and engaging user experience for the participant audience, oftentimes distilling very complicated investment ideas for the average layperson. The candidate will interact closely with many internal groups such as Sales & Client Services, Marketing, Legal and Compliance and the Multi-Asset Solutions investment team, as well as external business partners.

In addition to assisting to develop custom communication campaigns for some of the largest and sophisticated organizations in the US, the candidate will be expected to stay abreast of DC trends, legislation, communication innovation and competitor activity. This person will also need to be able conceptualize and implement "value add" content like financial wellness and retirement education programs can not only create better outcomes for the participant audience, but also assist in the business development effort. While experience in retirement plans is a plus, it is not a requirement.

What You'll Do:

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Respond effectively to all client requests, coordinating appropriately with the client service team (those who manage the client relationship) and other members of the DC team
  • Provide up-to-date participant communications content when responding to the Request -for -Proposal (RFP) team and create a repository of for them to use on various subjects related to the participant audience when responding to bids for new opportunities
  • Create, update and maintain quarterly participant fact sheets and fund profiles for each client
  • Manage the development of client microsites and ensure they are updated timely
  • Create and manage all client fund change communications
  • Assist with the development of general participant communications, retirement education materials and plan sponsor and participant research materials
  • Explore the idea of financial wellness initiatives and how best to provide value to both our retail and institutional clients
  • Administer relationship with print vendor to produce customized defined contribution enrollment kits and other materials
  • Manage the communications production process by interfacing and collaborating with various departments including business partners, editorial, graphic design, legal, compliance, and technology
  • Assist with creation of presentations on industry trends by doing research on key topics and developing and updating PowerPoint decks and other materials
  • Contribute during weekly department meetings, including project meetings, business strategy discussions and operations resource planning
  • Assist in the development of blogs and other thought leadership where appropriate

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, finance, business management or marketing, with academic excellence
  • Preferably two years of financial services experience in a professional capacity, focused primarily on communications, investments, defined contribution plans or retirement savings, in general
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to thoughtfully assert ideas to a broad audience
  • Good judgment, a strong sense of urgency, and initiative
  • Ability to be proactive and to work well both independently and as part of a team
  • A desire to learn about the industry and AB's investment strategies
  • Self-motivation/self-starter
  • Point of view and interest in varied communication delivery methods including: social media, print, web and virtual
  • Be comfortable and/or willing to learn to present new materials to internal audiences
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Deadline-driven, with the ability to reassess priorities
  • Client-focused, highly organized and able to thrive in a culture of relentless ingenuity
  • Adept at synthesizing data to arrive at a compelling conclusion/tell a story
