The Lead, Partnerships and Venture Investments, will drive the company engagements in the early stage and broader innovation ecosystem. This position will work across the organization to identify innovation opportunities and then source, negotiate, and structure partnerships, investments, and acquisitions to drive our client's innovation agenda. The role reports to the Global Head of Innovation.
The Role
- Drive the execution of our client's external innovation framework
- Develop buy / invest / partner models for key areas of focus and work with current venture teams or other teams within the company to build recommendations
- Work alongside the Global Head of Innovation, the Global Head of ESG and other senior stakeholders within the company to support the development of external innovation priorities, including those related to ESG innovation, based on needs across the business
- Engage with the company's regional leadership and other key stakeholders to identify problem areas and other focus themes
- Co-develop alongside the Head of Innovation a partnering/acquisition strategy that supports the company's mandates and priority initiatives with leadership, and identify and triage opportunities based on that strategy
- Proactively source opportunities and engage with external firm leadership to explore joint value creation opportunities
- Lead cross-functional due diligence teams to assess and execute collaboration and alliance opportunities for projects from inception through proof of concept, and eventually through scale
- Define a repeatable process for sourcing, evaluating, and executing partnerships with external firms
- Develop and refine project plans alongside the company's leadership and external partners to drive growth
- Support the building and nurturing of key relationships in the innovation community
- Establish and maintain a broad network of relationships with potential partner sources (e.g., venture capital funds, startup founders, industry technology leads)
- Establish the company as a “partner of choice” amongst emerging tech companies
- Manage existing, critical engagements in the innovation ecosystem (e.g., Fifth Wall), along with new partnerships
- Support the Head of Innovation in building out partnership networks – e.g., with Universities, with non-profits or other key partners within Commercial Real Estate
- Regularly synthesize “outside-in” perspectives on markets to influence the company's internal strategy development
- Coordinate closely with key groups within the company also driving forward technology initiatives related to the current and core business, to ensure coordination on key efforts
- Oversee a small team of 1-2 junior team member(s), potentially
- Contribute to the development of best practices across the the company innovation ecosystem
- Collaborate with senior leaders of the firm, including Regional CEOs, co-heads of Investment Management, Central functional leaders, and the Global Head of ESG
Experience
- 10 or more years in a tech-focused or commercial real estate-focused M&A, venture capital, or partnering role, with a successful track record.
- Additional startup experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters-level degree or higher preferred
- Experience in corporate innovation and/or venturing (internal and/or external venture development and realization)
- Strong financial modeling and data analysis capabilities to support dealmaking process
- Experience managing due diligence processes with early stage and growth companies, as well as technology companies
- Strong strategic planning skills
- Experience with business development in G1000 environment
- Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-task environment, including the demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams of diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in commercial real estate, private equity or other fields strongly preferred.
- Preference for candidates located in New York, Houston, or California, expected collaboration with our other global company locations, including the company’s Houston Global Headquarters
