Ardent is seeking a part-time Payroll Accountant to join our team. This position will average 20 hours per week.

This is a Remote Role.

Position Description:

Ardent is seeking a detail-oriented part-time Payroll Accountant to join our team. A background in government contracting is preferred but not required. As the Payroll Accountant, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll, compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and maintaining precise financial records related to payroll activities. The ideal candidate will possess excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

Payroll Processing:

• Accurately process payroll for employees semi-monthly, including regular and overtime hours, commissions, bonuses, and other payroll-related compensation.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state payroll regulations and tax laws

Timekeeping and Attendance:

• Oversee the timekeeping system and ensure accurate recording of employee attendance.
• Verify and reconcile time and attendance records with payroll data, identifying discrepancies and resolving any issues.

Recordkeeping and Reporting:

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records, including employee information, tax withholding, deductions, and earnings.
• Prepare various payroll reports (to include reconciliations of 941 and W-2’s) and summaries for management.
• Assist with external audits, providing necessary payroll documentation and explanations

Communication:

• Address employee inquiries regarding payroll-related matters, including tax withholding, deductions, and pay discrepancies.
• Stay updated on changes in payroll regulations and effectively communicate the impact on payroll operations.

Process Improvement:

• Identify process inefficiencies and propose solutions to streamline payroll procedures and improve overall accuracy and effectiveness.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field (equivalent experience may be considered).
• Minimum 2 years' experience as a Payroll Accountant, preferably with experience in government contracting.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism and integrity.
• In-depth knowledge of payroll principles, practices, and regulations.
• Familiarity with timekeeping systems and payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paychex, or similar).
• Proficient in using spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel)
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex payroll concepts to various stakeholders.
• Familiarity with general accounting principles and practices is an asset.
• Previous experience with Unanet is preferred but not required.
