As the Payroll Administrator at 7shifts, you will be responsible for processing full-cycle payroll to Canadian and US employees, processing international contractor payments, and remitting and reconciling payroll taxes. Reporting to the Manager, Accounting, this role will have the opportunity to work closely with various departments to implement solutions to streamline and automate payroll processes, including benefits and commission payments.

What you’ll do: 

  • Prepare and process all semi-monthly payroll related payments, including regular pay, bonuses and commissions, and taxable benefits for Canadian and US employees
  • Maintain and update employee information in our payroll and rewards systems (ADP, Gusto, Deel, and Carta) for new hires, terminations, changes in pay, etc.
  • Process critical payroll tasks required for resignations and terminations including submitting ROEs, vacation calculations, severance pay, and ad hoc payrolls 
  • Ensure compliance with US and Canadian federal, state, and provincial payroll laws and regulations, including registering 7shifts for payroll tax accounts in states and provinces as necessary
  • Prepare and file US and Canadian payroll remittances as required, including workers compensation and employee health tax
  • Process payments for international contractors, manage annual W2 (US) and T4 (Canada) process and respond to payroll requests from government agencies and auditors  
  • Serve as the main point of contact for all payroll-related matters at 7shifts, while proactively suggesting and implementing policies that drive payroll process improvements

What you bring:

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years experience with full-cycle payroll
  • Proficiencies in both US and Canadian payroll and benefits practices and laws
  • Ability to articulate analysis, thoughts, and recommendations clearly and concisely 
  • Eagerness to collaborate but also a self-starter excited to solve new problems and embrace challenges
  • An aptitude  for leveraging technology to simplify internal processes and minimize manual work

It’d be cooler if you had:

  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now, Gusto, Deel and/or Carta
  • Experience with BambooHR
  • Experience calculating the taxable benefits arising from from the issuance and / or exercise of stock options
