How you'll make an impact 

As the Payroll and Benefits Administrator, you will be an integral part of the People Team and will be responsible for all aspects of our HRIS, payroll, and benefits administration.  You will also be critical support for our employees, handling confidential questions and concerns quickly and effectively. This role will report to the Head of People and is an exempt role based out of our Denver office.

 What you'll do 
  • Process multi-state, semi-monthly payrolls for all exempt and nonexempt employees with varying pay cycles 
  • Manage off-cycle payroll payments, retroactive pay, garnishments, and other statutory deductions
  • Manage and own the annual open enrollment process, including plan set-up, education, and data transmission in conjunction with the broader People Team
  • Oversee EDI implementation and management for benefits providers and HRIS system, and troubleshoot errors as necessary
  • Oversee updates to benefits elections through qualifying life events, retirement election updates, and cafeteria-plan elections
  • Monitor cafeteria plan contributions and maintenance, including payroll deductions and annual elections. Reconcile and upload semi-monthly payroll contributions
  • Ensure IRS compliance with PPACA (forms 1095-C and 1094-C), COBRA, and complete non-discrimination testing
  • Own the administration of SonderMind’s HRIS system – ensuring employee record accuracy and the timely processing of work items
  • Administer employee leaves and FMLA compliance, including working with third-party carriers and our employees to ensure a seamless process
  • Manage year-end reporting for SonderMind 401(k) compliance, open enrollment data transmission, year-end tax and payroll reporting, and other compliance reporting, as needed. 
  • Assist the accounting team insetting up and maintaining tax compliance in states of operation
  • Act as a go-to for employee personnel reports for various HR, Finance, and Executive stakeholders
  • And other responsibilities and ad-hoc projects from time to time, based on business needs
 What you'll bring with youRequired Experience 
  • Experience in Federal, State, and Local labor laws, payroll tax requirements, payroll regulations, and industry changes that affect payroll operations
  • Experience with payroll and benefits systems (HRIS, Fidelity, Cigna, and NY Life)
  • Capability to handle confidential and sensitive information
  • A deep understanding of Payroll practices, legislation, and regulation
  • You’re highly organized, meticulous about detail and accuracy, and get excited about process improvement.
  • You have a strong ability to independently make well-informed decisions and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

Our Benefits 

The anticipated salary range for this role is $65,000- $85,000. This role is eligible to participate in our equity incentive plan.  Actual title and compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
