This role provides a key opportunity to support and scale a critical function in a fast-growing, fully remote, international organization. You will work closely with the payroll and benefits team to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations while managing employee benefits programs. The position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to navigate multi-country and multi-state payroll requirements. You will help maintain a seamless employee experience while contributing to process improvements and operational efficiency. With a mix of day-to-day execution and strategic support, this role allows you to make a direct impact on employee satisfaction and overall organizational effectiveness.
Accountabilities:
The Payroll & Benefits Coordinator will be responsible for:
- Supporting end-to-end payroll processing across multiple states and countries, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Reviewing and validating timekeeping data, including hours worked, PTO, and payroll adjustments.
- Processing payroll changes such as new hires, terminations, bonuses, and compensation updates.
- Administering employee benefits programs, including enrollments, life event changes, and program communications.
- Managing contractor lifecycle operations, including agreements, onboarding, and invoice schedules.
- Coordinating offboarding processes, ensuring smooth benefits termination and system updates.
- Acting as a point of contact for employee payroll and benefits inquiries, while supporting internal documentation and continuous process improvement initiatives.
- 4+ years of experience in payroll, benefits, or a related function, ideally in high-growth or distributed companies.
- Solid understanding of payroll fundamentals, including taxes, deductions, and compliance basics.
- Experience with payroll systems and HRIS tools (experience with Remote.com is a plus).
- Proficiency in Excel and spreadsheet functions (e.g., lookups) with high accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage recurring deadlines while handling sensitive information discreetly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (CEFR C2 or equivalent).
- Bonus: experience with multi-state payroll requirements, benefits compliance (ACA, COBRA), or remote-first organizations.
