The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a dynamic Payroll Manager for an approximately 4,500 employee population. This position is responsible for managing, planning, and directing the workflow and daily operations of all functions of the Payroll Department. This role will communicate and solve complex payroll issues with other departments, managers, employees, auditors, and outside agencies.

Hybrid - This role will manage a team and position resides at The Aerospace Corporation's corporate office in El Segundo, CA.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead department of payroll professionals who: Validates payroll transactionsprocesses and validates off-cycle payroll for terminations, category changes, retirements, disability, and other off-cycle events; Records and posts journal entries to the general ledger; Funds tax liabilities and payments tie to general ledger accounts prepares and analyzes payroll record transactions and reports for accuracy
  • Oversee the reconciliations of payroll General Ledger Accounts and develop internal controls for accounting procedures that ensure accurate posting of payroll related transactions.
  • Serve as a resource to staff, department heads and others for interpreting policies, procedures, and regulations relating to payroll.
  • Manage the department budget, ensuring that staff have adequate resources; manage the budget for contractor and consultant support for specific projects
  • Ensure the continuous and reliable operation of relevant parts of potential Enterprise Resource Program (ERP) or other systems implementations
  • Work with business analysts and subject matter experts in EIS (IT) and People Operations (HR) and Finance to recommend workflow changes and enhancements; work with staff to identify appropriate mechanisms to implement these requirements
  • Ensure internal controls are maintained; communicate payroll internal control policies and procedures
  • Communicate to leadership, peers, customers, and other stakeholders about the department's activities and accomplishments
  • Assess and improve the performance of department staff through periodic reviews, mentorship, coaching of staff as part of career development
  • Responsible for hiring, supervising, providing training, scheduling overtime, approving time off, determining objectives, and completing annual performance reviews of staff.

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
  • 10 or more years of relevant Payroll experience
  • Experience with federal and state wage and hour laws
  • Experience with SSA, lRS, and multiple state and local taxation rules
  • Experience interacting with internal and external auditors
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Be detail oriented
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and projects
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of customers and corporate staff

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related field
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) credential
  • Experience with SAP
  • Experience with Workday
  • Experience with ADP
