Payroll Ops Specialist
Job Description
What you will do
Under broad supervision, responsible for timely and accurate preparation and delivery of the organization's payroll. This includes the preparation, documentation, reviewing/auditing payroll reports and completion of payroll. Work on a team of payroll professional to process payroll transactions, answer employee/customer inquiries, and resolve problems within a designated timeframe.
How you will do it
- Responsible to ensure the timely and accurate preparation and submission of the employee pay, benefits, and retro pay calculations, etc.
- Ensures appropriate withholding of federal, state, and local income taxes, and on any temporary tax withholdings from employees
- Responds to all inquiries relating to pay, benefits, taxes, garnishments, etc.
- Executes and reviews payroll reports to determine accuracy
- Ability to process weekly and biweekly payroll deadlines
- Work closely with the Union Team and HRSSC to ensure deadlines are meet and accurate payroll delivered to employees
- Coordinates and executes all activities relating to year-end bonus payments and other year-end activities impacting employees
- Provides customer and stakeholder support for issues that arise including problem resolution along with mitigation of issues on a go-forward basis
- Process payrolls for union and nonunion employees in US and Canada
- Adheres to and complete all activities related to SOX and internal control compliance
- Performs other tasks/duties as assigned
Qualifications - External
What we look for
- Degree in business related discipline (Business, Accounting, Finance, HR, etc.), or the equivalent of combination of education and work experience
- 3 years' hands-on experience in payroll processing and associated activities
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to work independently in a time sensitive environment
- Knowledge of wage withholding orders and garnishments
- Knowledge of Workday HCM and Payroll system preferred
- Working knowledge of payroll tax
- Must be a customer-focused, self-driven, results-oriented individual with good attention to detail and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong skills in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Multi-State Large Volume Processing experience.
