We seek an experienced, organized, and detail-oriented individual to join our Finance Team as a Payroll Specialist. As a Payroll Specialist, you will ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for our organization. In this role, you will:

  • Process and administer payroll, taxes, and benefits for employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies. 
  • Maintain employee payroll records, including but not limited to wages, benefits, deductions, and tax withholdings. 
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the finance and HR team as the primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and issues.  
  • Respond to employee inquiries and provide exceptional customer service regarding payroll-related matters. 
  • Prepare and distribute payroll reports to management and other stakeholders as required.  
  • Post payroll data to the general ledger, monitor and analyze payroll data to identify potential issues or discrepancies, and implement corrective actions as needed. 
  • Stay up-to-date with payroll regulations, tax laws, and best practices, and implement necessary changes to develop and maintain payroll processing procedures, including documentation and training materials. 
  • Develop relationships with third-party vendors, including payroll service providers and tax agencies.

On Your Resume

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. 
  • 5+ years of experience in payroll management, 
  • Thorough understanding of payroll processing, tax laws, employment regulations, and best practices. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information. 
  • Proficiency in using payroll software and MS Excel. 
  • Experience with Netsuite is a plus but not required.

The starting salary for this role is between $70,000 - $80,000, depending on skills and experience. We take a geo-neutral approach to compensation within the US, meaning that we pay based on job function and level, not location. We have competitive pay bands for all other countries based on market standards. Individual compensation decisions are based on several factors, including experience level, skill set, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. Based on these factors, we expect most candidates offered roles at our company to fall healthily throughout the range. We recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description, as posted. If so, the updated salary range will be communicated to you as a candidate.

BrainPOP is a hybrid work environment, allowing employees to self-select where they work–whether fully remote in approved states or in-office in our New York headquarters.
