About The Role 

Path is currently seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our accounting team. 

The Payroll Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth and accurate processing of payroll, guaranteeing that our employees receive their hard-earned compensation on time. This role holds a unique position within our organization, serving as the backbone of our financial operations and making a direct impact on the lives of our employees.

In this role you will find yourself immersed in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, where no two days are the same. Your responsibilities will encompass a range of tasks, including processing payroll transactions, maintaining accurate employee records, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

By leveraging your expertise in payroll administration, you will have the opportunity to streamline and optimize our payroll processes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing innovative solutions. Your meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy will help us maintain a high level of data integrity, minimizing errors and discrepancies.

Not only will you be responsible for managing the technical aspects of payroll, but you will also have the chance to interact with our employees directly. Acting as a trusted point of contact, you will address their payroll-related inquiries and concerns, providing exceptional customer service and ensuring their satisfaction.

Your goal as a Payroll Specialist at Path will be to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of our payroll operations continually. You Will 

  • Manage state tax registrations including handling paperwork, setting up state portals, and updating Gusto/payroll with information upon state registration completion.

  • Ensure that the payroll is compliant with all applicable laws and regulations, including tax laws, labor laws, and benefits regulations. Verify that all payroll taxes are withheld and remitted properly.

  • Process payroll in a timely manner, including salary, hourly, and contractor payrolls. Manage weekly hourly and contractor payroll

  • Collaborate with the People Operations team on employee payroll changes, compliance, workers’ comp audits, and payroll adjustments for leaves or bonuses, onboarding, dismissal payroll, and bonus/promotion adjustments.

  • Own payroll review process. Obtain approvals from the appropriate parties, including managers and executives, for the payroll and related reports. Researching issues identified. 

  • Manage incoming mail related to payroll and taxes.

  • Review expense reimbursement submissions against the Path expense policy.

  • Maintain and organize all documentation for future reference and audit purposes.

  • Prepare monthly payroll summaries with flux analysis for reporting to management.

  • Collaborate with the accounting team on the analysis and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, benefits billing, and GL financial analysis.

  • Support day-to-day administration of the company’s equity programs, including reviewing new equity awards and managing stakeholder profiles. 

  • Support ad-hoc projects within the accounting team.

You Are 

  • Must-Haves

    • At least 5-7 years of experience in payroll administration.

    • Knowledge of accounting principles.

    • Knowledge of state tax regulations and payroll processing.

    • Comfortable processing payroll independently

    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

    • Exceptional project management experience, specifically with managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.

    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

    • Comfortable using Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.

    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and a high level of integrity.

  • Preferred

    • Proficient in using payroll software, Gusto experience is preferred.
