Payroll Specialist

Description

Responsible for processing payrolls for Franklin Electric's domestic locations. Balances the 401(k) plan, Health Savings Account plan, taxes, net pay (checks and ACH), and garnishments to the GL. Verifies totals with designated individual Principal (formerly Wells Fargo). Prepare A/P vouchers for deductions (i.e. credit union, union dues, etc.). Creates transfer documents for Treasury and Cash departments for net pay, taxes, garnishments, 401k & Health Savings. Assist with the completion of routine governmental and regulatory forms and administration of the Company's equity compensation plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Processes payrolls for corporate, domestic locations, including calculating time cards and additional locations as required.
  • Pulls weekly payroll data from the time and attendance system into the payroll system. Helps facilities resolve any Time issues.
  • Balances the 401(k) plan and Health Savings Plan to GL and with vendor.
  • Balances net pay, taxes and garnishments to GL and invoices from ADP.
  • Prepares fringe benefits for designated companies on a recurring basis, through the entire closing process. Creates journal entries for fringe benefits.
  • Creates and runs reports to support payroll as well as other departments for information management.
  • Tracks auto allowances and processes them through payroll quarterly.
  • Processes stock options through the payroll system and creates journal entries as needed.
  • Processes moving expenses through the payroll system as needed.
  • Creates and distributes headcount reports.
  • Assists in compiling information for the Proxy.
  • Assists in training when new companies are converted to the Franklin Electric payroll system.
  • Assists with inquiries from supervisors and payroll staff.
  • Resolves inquiries from outlying facilities.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Assist with completion of routine quarterly and annual governmental regulatory forms (i.e., census reporting).
  • Assist with administration of equity compensation plans.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Skills and Abilities

  • Reads and understands documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Writes routine reports and correspondence.
  • Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides numbers (using currency and other forms of measurement).
  • Utilizes common-sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions.
  • Deals with problems involving several known variables in situations of routine nature.
  • Plans the time, method, manner, and/or performance sequence of own work; may also occasionally assist in planning work assignments performed by others within a limited area of operation.
  • Frequently makes decisions of both minor and major importance, which may affect the work operations of other employees and/or clientele to a moderate degree.
  • Completes some moderately repetitive tasks.
  • Uses noncomplex machines and equipment (adding machines, calculators, copy/fax machines, etc.).

Education and Experience

  • Three to five years of relevant education or experience in payroll, benefits, human resources, or a related field (required).
  • Bachelor's degree (preferred).

Computer Skills

  • Advanced: 10-key, accounting, alphanumeric data entry, contact management, database, human resource systems, payroll systems, spreadsheet, word processing/typing.
  • Intermediate: Presentation/PowerPoint.
