Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Director, PBM Business Development, the primary role of this position is to support the development of new Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) initiatives that drive value enhancement and deliver new capabilities via joint venture, mergers & acquisitions, and new commercial relationships. This role will research, evaluate, and vet new margin creating opportunities and make recommendations for a path forward, including managing existing and new/early-stage developments through maturity. An emphasis will be placed on strategically evaluating financial opportunities for optimum value. The role will also support strategic initiatives and lead work streams in conjunction with a cross-functional team during the assessment, design and development phase tracking/advancing new opportunities and strategic projects across Express Scripts while providing aligned value to clients, patients and senior stakeholders. Role may also be involved in contracting, operational design and technology advancements to fully develop new products/initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  • Challenge the status quo in search of new processes, ideas, technology to deliver on growth and improve competitive position.
  • Generate innovative, data-driven ideas and solutions to meet and exceed customer experience and drive margins.
  • Seamlessly gather, analyze and utilize data to develop insights, and drive to appropriate conclusions about the strategic and financial attractiveness of concepts/initiatives.
  • Assume support role in presenting strategic direction, analysis and presentation of key findings within data analysis necessary to support client group.
  • Represent PBM Business Development, serving as a critical resource internally and externally, as needed, for large margin-driving projects, implementations and external contract negotiations.
  • Identify & implement new growth capabilities in collaboration with external business development contacts and other internal departments, such as all areas of Supply Chain, Sales and Account Management, Legal, Accounting/Finance, Technology, Operations and Human Resources to facilitate cross-functional initiatives key to margin growth.
  • Support role in developing & presenting internal and external executive level presentations & memos about Business Development initiatives and broader PBM strategic projects, as well as broader healthcare market landscape dynamics.
  • Manage tight deadlines for multiple competing priorities, scope, and converging opinions to solution in a timely manner. Responsible for smaller -medium sized projects/ implementations from original concept through implementation and support, as required. Responsible for execution of individual work streams on larger initiatives.
  • Ability to support ad-hoc process improvements, analytics, and financial analysis as needed.

Ideal candidates will have a combination of the following:

  • Five or more years of relevant experience; PBM/ healthcare experience is desirable.
  • Bachelor's degree desirable. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience in directing or working with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong financial acumen with ability to efficiently develop insights from analytics and financial statements and assess attractiveness of various concepts. Understanding of PBM economics a plus.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership on challenging problems with examples of implementing innovative analytic and operational solutions and driving outstanding results.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and leadership skills to work with external parties and various matrix partners, including all areas of Supply Chain, Sales and Account Management, Legal, Accounting/Finance, Technology and Human Resources.
  • Ability to manage a vision and purpose with various business stakeholders and analytics teams.
  • Effective leadership, prioritization and management of complex deliverable portfolio in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
