People Programs Director & Chief of Staff

We are seeking a visionary and accomplished People Programs Director who will also assume Chief of Staff responsibilities to help drive and manage all aspects of our company-wide People team programs and initiatives. This role is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced HR/OD professional with a strategic mindset and a knack for operational excellence.
As the People Programs Director/Chief of Staff, you will play a critical role in shaping and executing the People team’s strategy and operations. You will provide leadership, guidance, strategic thinking, and partnership to the People team while partnering closely with the Chief People Officer and People leadership team. Additionally, you will assume Chief of Staff responsibilities working closely with our executive team and senior management to ensure seamless operations and effective communication across the organization. You will be pivotal in shaping the culture, effectiveness, and development of the organization and its people. These responsibilities will help drive the development of a high-performing and inclusive workplace that fosters growth and success for both employees and the company.
People Programs Responsibilities:
Culture Development:
- Lead initiatives to assess and analyze the current organizational culture, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas to improve
- Champion and drive DEIB initiatives to create an inclusive workplace culture where each person thrives
Change Management:
- Develop and help implement change management strategies aligned with the organization's goals and objectives; this includes identifying upcoming changes, assessing impact, and creating a roadmap for successful implementation
Performance Management:
- Design and lead the company performance process and calendar, including goal setting, coaching, and development planning
Learning and Development:
- Identify capability gaps and training needs through assessments and employee feedback
- Develop, procure, and sometimes deliver training and development programs that address organizational needs and individual growth
Management Excellence:
- Design and execute management planning, strategy, and development forums to strengthen the management community
- Procure training and resources for managers to enhance their leadership and people/team management skills
Employee Engagement:
- Own regular employee engagement surveys to measure and understand employee satisfaction and organizational health
- Create company action plans based on survey results, addressing areas of concern
- Implement and oversee employee recognition programs
Chief of Staff Duties:
Strategic Planning:
- Act as a key advisor to the CPO, assisting in decision-making, planning, and development and implementation of a comprehensive People strategy that aligns with the company's goals and objectives
Project Management:
- Oversee critical projects and initiatives, ensuring they are completed on time, meet metrics, and are within budget
Operational Support:
- Create and drive the People team’s annual calendar, planning, monthly business reviews, OKR tracking and metrics, and budgeting process
Communication:
- Facilitate communication between the CPO and other departments, ensuring information flows smoothly
You would be a good fit with:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred)
- 12+ years of progressive HR/OD experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership and management role
- Proven track record in developing and executing HR strategies and initiatives
- Strong understanding of labor laws, regulations, and compliance
- Extremely strong written and verbal communication, leadership, organizing, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, and fast changing environment
Our HQ is located in College Park, Maryland and we are a 15 minute metro ride from Washington DC. We have also recently announced our new manufacturing and production facility in the Seattle, Washington area. We are actively building out teams in the Washington D.C., Seattle, Boston and Toronto metro areas and will want to locate you in one of these geographies. However, IonQ will be expanding into additional geographies both domestically and internationally so don’t let this stop you from applying.
