Job Description

The Performance Engineer will analyze, interpret, and report on data from operating solar photovoltaic power plants and support other teams with needs relating to operating data.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Monitor and assess operational plant performance and attributes
  • Contribute to projects involving energy modeling, performance assessments of operating power plants, performance testing etc.
  • Compare actual production against modeled production and explain details to non-engineering departments
  • Analyze and report on operating plants to meet routine reporting requirements (e.g., weekly, monthly, annual)
  • Conduct plant sensor health checks, conduct plant dc health checks, and evaluate plant degradation
  • Work with third-party plant monitoring service providers to maintain system configuration and set up new project sites
  • Work with O&M provider and plant monitoring service providers to recover and backfill missing data as needed
  • Quantify the impact of lost energy events
  • Estimate soiling losses using existing tools and contribute to team recommendation for cleaning schedule
  • Coordinate with field O&M teams for basic maintenance related to sensor health and dc health
  • Attend weekly coordination meetings
  • Conduct special studies upon request
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related field
  • Experience in electric power industry and solar PV preferred
  • Experience in data science preferred
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including advanced features of Excel
  • Ability to learn basic programming skills (previous experience preferred, especially python)
  • Ability to learn basic SQL database queries and database management preferred
  • Strong problem solving and analytical abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to effectively manage competing deadlines or projects
  • Committed team player with the ability to develop and maintain productive work relationships
  • Flexibility conducive to a fast-paced, growing company environment

PHYSICAL & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be located in or willing to relocate to Boise, Idaho
  • Hybrid work style available
  • Occasional travel may be required
