Performance Engineer Intern

Pine Gate Renewables is seeking a Performance Engineer Intern to join our team this summer who is excited about working in a dynamic environment within the renewable energy industry! Performance Engineers serve a crucial role in investigating systematic performance issues of our solar sites.  The Performance Engineer Intern will assist in running scripts, data validation, and onboarding site information. The Performance Engineer will also run comparative simulations and assist in cost-benefit analyses to ensure the optimal design decisions are being made.

What You’ll Do

• Analyze data from solar and battery storage systems.
• Assist in building models to estimate energy production.
• Interface with large datasets.
• Learn about PV system components and power plant performance.

About You

• Beginner to intermediate experience using Excel or PowerBI; advanced experience is a plus.
• Programming experience in Python, SQL, R, or MatLab.
• Familiarity with renewable energy performance modeling software such as PVsyst, PVlib, SAM is a plus.
• Ability to complete quantitative analysis methods.
• Experience with data analytics or data science.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Electrical systems and energy markets knowledge is a plus.
• Strong interest in renewable energy, especially solar.

Education and Certifications

• College junior or senior majoring in Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, Economics, Physics, Computer Science, or other related discipline.

Working Environment and Physical Demand

• This internship allows for remote work, but the ideal candidate is located in the Triangle or surrounding areas (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, etc).
• If located in the area, in-person training and development will be in our Durham office 2-3 days a week.
• The internship will last 8-10 weeks depending on your school schedule and availability.
