Tenneco is seeking a proactive and self-motivated Human Resources (HR) student who has an interest in gaining hands-on experience in a professional environment at our Monroe, MI corporate location.

As an HR Intern you will also be responsible for supporting the HR Manager and broader team in accomplishing basic transactional tasks and will have the opportunity to partner on strategic HR Initiatives such as (but not limited to) the following:

  • Complete tasks and lead projects as assigned
  • Work on engagement projects and initiatives
  • Lead the onboarding and orientation of all new employees
  • Participate in creating and running the local intern & co-op program
  • Coordinate and own the planning of events and activities
  • Day to day management of department budget, invoicing, and vendor payments
  • Manage the filing and auditing of employment records
  • Answer employee questions and directing them to the appropriate resources
  • Assist with the review of hourly candidates and participate in interviews when appropriate
  • Establish a strong HR business partnership with key leaders

Required Experience:

Human Resource or Business student with a passion for HR. This position will be part-time, about 20-40 hours a week. Tenneco is looking for an HR Intern to start ASAP.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of hiring process
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word and capable of learning new systems quickly
  • 2 or more years of until graduation preferred
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Proactive communication around project status and business critical updates
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team-based environment
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization from hourly to executive
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Effective time management skills and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to handle challenging tasks and work through ambiguous situations
  • Must be able to work regular business hours on-site
  • Prefer experience with maintaining sensitive and confidential employment records and/or information
