Personal Finance Writer
Job Description
At First Command, our objective is to create compelling content that supports our efforts to provide personal financial coaching to our Nation's military families. We are seeking a skilled writer with experience writing financial-based content and/or extensive knowledge of financial behaviors, products and services. Familiarity with military life and benefits is a definite plus, but not required.
Working as a member of a small, specialized team that includes a campaign manager, graphic artist and client experience specialist, the Personal Finance Writer will need to be capable of writing copy for a variety of marketing and communication channels, including website, digital and print marketing materials, advertising, social media and (scripts for) short videos.
Objectives will include explaining the benefits of working with a knowledgeable financial coach and motivating prospective active duty clients to take action, and creating copy that ensures current First Command clients feel informed, understood, valued and supported. The individual in this position will also be responsible for helping to ensure a consistent brand voice in all copy, adherence to First Command style standards, and compliance with internal and external regulatory standards and requirements.

What will you be doing?
- Work with marketing and product teams, as well as specific subject matter experts to write and edit compelling content in support of various strategic initiatives
- Support company SEO objectives both strategically and tactically (keyword research and on-page SEO/writing)
- Provide writing and editing support for the company's Financial Advisors and their staff members (typically involving client emails and letters, advertising copy and support of local marketing initiatives).
- Collaborate with the social media team to plan the editorial calendar and develop posts as needed to support it. When possible, identify relevant news and information that may lend itself to the development of more timely, ad-hoc posts.
- Write and edit copy for a wide variety of marketing materials, including but not limited to website content, digital and print marketing materials, advertising, social media and (scripts for) short videos.
- Write articles for the company's online blog.
- Collaborate with graphic designers and campaign managers to develop and create new marketing campaigns.
- Prepare and periodically update all Advisor Profiles (one-page bios) and executive bios.
- Write scripts for the company's Annual Advisor Conference awards presentations.
What skills/qualifications do you need?
Education
- College degree required
- Communications or marketing-related degree preferred
Work Experience
- 5+ years experience developing and writing financial-based and other types of content, with samples of work product as proof
Certifications
- FINRA Series 7 license required (or must be willing to obtain)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to develop copy that translates financial products and concepts into user-appropriate understanding and engagement
- Thorough knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and AP style
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with others
- Ability to quickly learn about company product and service offerings required
- Ability to learn and adhere to financial services industry regulatory standards and restrictions for advertising and marketing communications required
- Ability to work across diverse groups and functions to gather information as required and coordinate delivery of work product to meet strict deadlines required
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word required; proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and project management software a plus
- Knowledge of the military and/or past military service a plus
- Knowledge of financial markets and financial services and products is required
