DUTIES: Under indirect and intermittent supervision, to perform responsible work requiring ability to take independent action and make decisions, in preparing basic sketches, making calculations and formulating the designs for construction and rehabilitation projects for distribution and bulk substations, service buildings, and other distribution and bulk company properties; and to do related work as required. In this connection to perform details of work, such as: Make basic studies and preliminary designs of projects requiring calculations or independent investigation. Create or modify layout drawings, site plans, grading, foundations, steel, equipment, grounding and other civil/structural drawings on which no definite design has been established other than the basic engineering, and for which information may be supplied in the form of sketches, specifications or verbal instructions. Check drawings of other Civil/Structural Designer II, Designer I or CAD Technicians. Check manufacturers' prints for conformity to design. Obtain detailed information in the field. Maintain and update information in the electronic drawing management system. Assist in department training program as a mentor, trainer or other assigned supervisor.
SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Quality and accuracy in updating and maintaining CAD drawings and to standards of the work he/she checks. For care to prevent errors in field measurements taken by him/her. Responsible for safe, prudent, efficient and effective use of Company resources. Conduct self in efficient and effective manner. For holding as confidential information obtained in connection with Company business.
CONTACTS: Supervisors, engineers, construction personnel, other Company departments in connection with work performed, outside companies (if requested) in acquiring information for the maintenance of Ameren drawings.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Primarily in an office environment, however when on field trips or assigned to a special on-site project they may be subject to the usual conditions existing in switchyards, substations or other buildings, and subject to outdoor weather conditions. When in the field the employee must wear personal protective equipment as required. HAZARDS: Subject to those hazards incidental to visiting construction projects, switchyards, substations and other buildings.
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or the equivalent. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Successfully pass the Company's EEI Technical Aptitude test. If an aptitude test is failed on the employee's initial effort, it may be retaken after a one-month waiting period, but not to be taken more than once per job posting. Only two retakes will be permitted. Three years as a Civil/Structural Design I or equivalent experience outside the Company in Civil/Structural design related work. Satisfactory completion of an Associate's Degree in design drafting, computer aided drafting or other drafting technology at an accredited university, college or junior college. Satisfactory completion of at least 15 credit hours in the field of structural/civil design, civil/ structural engineering or other study of civil/structural technology at an accredited university, college or junior college. Successfully complete the department Civil/Structural Designer II training program and score at least an 80% on the department Civil/Structural Designer II evaluation. If employee is hired from outside of Ameren, the Designer II evaluation will be completed within the first 6 months of being hired into department. Employees who do not score at least an 80% on the Designer II evaluation will be disqualified from the position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience using 3D design software.
