Your Opportunity

We are currently looking for a Integrity Reliability Engineer to work with our Energy group in Houston Texas. You will work with a team of engineers working in a diverse and collaborative environment, performing quantitative reliability and risk assessment using advance analysis tools and techniques. These assessments are crucial to maintain the integrity and safe operations of gas transmission projects, facilities and storage assets across North America.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Support risk-informed decision-making for gas transmission pipelines, facilities and storage systems.
  • Perform integrity reliability and risk assessment using computational tools based on analysis procedure.
  • Gather and process information (e.g., worksheets, charts, graphs, tables) with purpose of understanding and drawing conclusion from the data using software such as MS Power BI, Excel, programming languages.
  • Review and analyze historical data for different assets subject to the different integrity threats.
  • Ensure accuracy in evaluating the probability of failure with respect to integrity threats
  • Deliver analysis reports on integrity reliability analysis using computational tools and techniques
  • Work with teams to provide due diligence work for project planning using risk information as reference
  • Provide support for logistic and long-range planning for all system-wide integrity related inspections
  • Communicate and describe analytical process and results effectively and efficiently
  • Engage with stakeholders understand and address technical needs and challenges
  • Involve in continuous improvement and technology innovation activities.
  • Performing in-depth reliability assessment, identify areas of potential concerns in maintaining and providing safety and support safety decisions with attention to details;
  • Interact with internal and external stakeholders to manage asset integrity and safety, including professional communication and relationship building;
  • Decision-making authority is limited; all recommendations will be reviewed by a more senior team member to ensure soundness of judgement

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of statistical tools (e.g. Excel with @RISK and Power BI, MATLAB/Octave Statistics toolbox)
  • Strong programming skills in high-level scripting languages (e.g., Excel VBA, MATLAB/Octave, Python).
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm in applying mathematics and statistics to help make critical engineering decisions.
  • Aptitude to acquire new technical (engineering, statistics) and soft (social, communication, critical thinking) skills.
  • Strong verbal & written communication (information organization, professional presentation, technical writing).
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with stakeholders. This includes the ability to effectively interact with peers and stakeholders in both formal and informal settings.
  • Ability to perform self-motivated tasks and pro-active stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and deliver thorough technical analysis and recommendations.
  • Strong conviction and values in engineering safety and integrity.
  • Must have a good driving record and valid Driver's License.
  • Prior to employment with Stantec, this position will require the successful passing of a drug & alcohol screen.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical, or chemical engineering (or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 4 years of engineering experience in one or more of the following areas:

    • Advanced data analytics;
      • Pipeline integrity related projects and programs;
      • Reliability analysis including statistical analysis, results interpretation, system modelling, etc.; and/or
      • Research-related projects requiring review of industry literature, interpretation of a variety data types, and generation of conclusions and recommendations based on findings.

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge in statistical tools (e.g., Excel with @Risk & Power BI, MATLAB/Octave Statistics toolbox).
  • Over 2 years of work experience in engineering in one or more of the following areas:

    • Reliability analysis, probabilistic risk assessment (PRA), statistics & analytics, advanced modeling (FEA)
    • Structural reliability models (e.g., historical index-based, quantitative Monte Carlo)
    • Asset integrity (e.g., pipeline, facility) applications (e.g., risk-based inspection, repair recommendation)
    • Development projects involving literature review, solution strategy, and communication of findings
    • Supporting safety-critical engineering decisions using information derived from probability & statistics
  • Graduate degree in engineering (e.g., civil, mechanical, chemical) from a recognized university.
  • Journal and conference publications related to probabilistic/quantitative risk and reliability analysis.
  • Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) from American Society of Quality (ASQ).

Typical office environment working with computers at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
