Qualifications
To qualify for the GS-12 grade level, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-11 in the federal service. Specialized experience at this level is defined as experience preparing NEPA documents and conducting environmental analyses of varying complexity for a variety of programs (e.g., range, realty, recreation, fuels, minerals, wildlife); working with and participating on an interdisciplinary team; serving as project lead for NEPA projects; communicating with internal and external audiences on natural resource projects and issues; reviewing NEPA documents to ensure they are well- written and defensible; evaluating documents for compliance with laws and regulations; synthesizing complex matter into clear, well-written documents.
Education may not be substituted at this grade level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid by the Department of the Interior. Any travel, transportation and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the responsibility of the selected employee.
