PLC Engineer
Job Description
BHS is seeking a skilled PLC Engineer to join our Sustaining Engineering team. In this hybrid role, you'll not only leverage your expertise in PLC code development and troubleshooting but also mentor junior Electrical Engineers and Electronics Technicians. The position requires up to 30% travel initially.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a candidate with 3-7 years of experience in PLC code development and field troubleshooting. A degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred, though candidates with an EET or related degree and relevant experience will also be considered. The role requires the ability to work at a computer desk for up to 8 hours a day and lift up to 25 pounds.
Required Expertise
- Siemens PLC Step 7 STL, Simatic Manager, TIA Portal, Simatic WinCC-HMI
- CodeSys
- Experience with PLC controllers including S7-200, S7-300, S7-400, S7-1200, S7-1500
- HMI systems like Simatic Basic, Comfort, Advanced HMI
- IPC-Simatic industrial PC
- Drive and encoder experience (Lenze is a plus)
- Profibus analyzer experience
- Middleware and Data Tag experience (a plus)
- Safety PLC/Relay experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Mentor junior Electrical Engineers and Electronics Technicians in PLC code troubleshooting and minor programming.
- Provide remote troubleshooting support for drives, encoders, and sensors to field technicians.
- Perform PLC patch/bug fix programming, including deployment and rollback.
- Conduct Electrical IO list checks.
- Integrate third-party devices (e.g., robots, vision systems, printers) with PLCs.
- Design HMI screens and provide operator training.
Travel Requirements
- Year 1: 30% (to learn the equipment)
- Year 2+: 10% (for customer visits or to address complex problems)
