This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serves as a Police Officer performing a broad range of law enforcement, investigation, crime prevention, traffic control, and community policing.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Requires Secret Clearance (Tier 3).
- This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019 Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
- The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
- Incumbent must possess a valid state driverโs license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operatorโs license.
- Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
- Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
- Applicants must successfully graduate from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy within 12 months of hire date; unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exception from the Office of the Provost Marshal General (OPMG).
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
- This position requires certification in cardio pulmonary resuscitation and first aid.
- Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56 (The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program). Prior to appointment you must agree in writing to adhere to these conditions of employment.
- This position requires an initial and periodic medical examination to assess your ability to take the Physical Ability Test and to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- This position requires you to pass the record Physical Ability Test (PAT) within 30 days of being hired and annually thereafter.
- This position requires the selectee to qualify annually for the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) as explained in IAW 190-56, Chapter 3.
- This position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 and DTM 17-004) during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- Incumbent will be required to successfully complete a Police Officer Field Training Program within 6 months upon initial assignment to law enforcement duties and maintain certification.
- This Term position is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 13 months. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-06 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work utilizing basic laws and regulations to maintain order or protect life or property; conducting vehicle or foot patrols; controlling access to restricted areas by verifying credentials; responding to calls for assistance; or conducting personal or vehicle searches. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
GS-07 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work utilizing laws and regulations to maintain order or protect life or property; responding to calls for assistance or emergency situations; arresting or mirandizing suspects; conducting investigations of crimes or preserving evidence; conducting vehicle or foot patrols; or conducting personal or vehicle searches. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

- This position may offer a recruitment bonus to individuals who are newly appointed as civilians in the Federal Government. You may qualify with a break in service of less than 90 days only if your previous Federal civilian appointment was a time-limited or non-permanent appointment. - This position may offer a relocation incentive to applicants if they are a current Federal government employee who is relocating from more than 50 miles from Devens RFTA. You will be required to sign a service agreement prior to your entry on duty.
- This position may offer the Student Loan Repayment program (SLRP). Participants must sign a service agreement prior to your entry on duty and maintain an acceptable level of performance to remain eligible for this program.
- Salary negotiations for candidates new to Federal service may be authorized.
- Credit for prior non-Federal experience and certain military service for leave accrual rates MAY be authorized but must be established prior to entry on duty.
- Management may select at any of the grade levels announced.
