Policy Director

We are seeking a Director of Policy. This person is an expert who is passionate about clean energy technology, grid transformation and engages deeply with our technology to advance distributed, clean energy policies and regulations. This individual would evaluate regulatory requirements and opportunities and partner with business leaders to develop market strategies related to Lunar’s hardware products and Gridshare offering. They will advance our strategic policy and regulatory strategy before state public utility commissions, energy offices, legislatures and other state administrative agencies, while collaborating with clean energy industry peers, utilities, non -profit advocates and other energy policy thought leaders.

On a given day at Lunar, you’ll likely…

• Lead policy and regulatory advocacy before legislatures and energy-related agencies in priority states.
• Advance energy and environmental policies and regulation to expand Lunar’s impact in delivering clean and resilient energy solutions. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to determine strategic approaches for influencing and responding to policy and regulatory requirements and opportunities.
• Develop strategic relationships with policymakers and regulatory agencies in target markets. Educate policymakers, regulators and advocates about Lunar’s GridShare solution.
• Drive profitability and reduce costs by accessing government supported incentives and limiting regulatory and tax burdens.
• Provide guidance to business partners, including Product, Sales, R&D and the senior leadership team across the company to support new market and product expansion and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in regulatory and industry conferences to share Lunar’s strategy and capacity to transition homes. 
• Provide executive summaries and presentations to update business leaders on policy and regulatory developments. 
• Coordinate and manage consultants and lobbyists and manage trade association engagement.

Desired Skills:

• 7 plus years of progressive work experience focused on policy and regulatory affairs or government service in energy or environmental domain. Prior experience working at or advocating before legislatures, public utility commissions or energy/environmental agencies.
• Strong understanding of energy markets and regulation, energy distribution networks and technology, and distributed energy compensation issues.
• Ability to work with the highest degree of confidentiality – exercising discretion, judgment and diplomacy
• Highly collaborative with strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
• Ability to think on your feet to creatively solve problems as they arise, without being tasked to do so
• Knowledge of and curiosity about energy and utility industry practices, technology and market trends.
• Strategic, collaborative, engaging, self-motivated and passionate about improving the energy system and tackling climate change.
• Track record of taking initiative and influencing regulatory processes and/or other stakeholder processes to achieve organizational objectives.
• Demonstrated ability to connect energy policy positions to commercial opportunities.
• Strong prioritization and time management skills.
• Willingness to travel.
