You are an innovative Product Design Engineer who thrives in a dynamic environment and has a track record of technical expertise in polymers and advanced product design. You will get to work with an amazing team of individuals across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Marketing, Analytics and Research.

This new global role is available at our Research and Development Headquarters in Milwaukee, WI.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead technology research and development efforts for materials driven projects, ensuring projects meet business and technical requirements. Select and evaluate polymeric materials to determine the right materials for specific applications and projects.
  • Apply scientific principles and practices to evaluate alternative materials and/or processes.
  • Perform research and testing on product concepts which may include making calculations of product performance, drawing sketches of product ideas, and designing and testing mockups of proposed products.
  • Use advanced knowledge of materials and processes to influence design solutions across the organization. Use design concepts and fundamental technology for advanced product development or existing product improvement.
  • Ensure technical rigor within the Advanced Development process, independently plan, execute and analyze development or production trials with Design of Experiment (DOE), Design failure mode and effect analysis (DFMEA), Lean, and other statistical analysis methods.
  • Document and communicate research results, conclusions and recommendations through internal reports and meetings. Integrate and communicate complex information beyond core team/function
  • Ensure hydraulic metering, registration and communication products are designed with material systems, geometric features and technique that enable high speed assembly operations.
  • Collaboratively work with a cross functional team to design and develop next generation products.
  • Support a culture of continuous curiosity and learning with defined business impacts.
  • Act as materials subject matter expert and mentor other engineers.

Requirements:

  • B.S. in Engineering, Polymer Science (Plastics) or Materials. Masters level education a plus
  • 5+ years' experience in New Product Development (NPD) or related field
  • Strong data driven analytical skills. Assist in defining problems and causes, and apply problem solving techniques.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision, maintaining open communication and positive working relationships with staff.
  • Ready to take on a leadership role in a growing Engineering environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in designing products for high volume automated assembly and test processes.
  • Experience designing products for wet or submerged environments a plus
  • Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Black Belt or Green Belt a plus
