PostgreSQL Database Developer (Remote USA)

We are a small oil and gas instrumentation company that is seeking a skilled PostgreSQL Database Developer to participate in the development of our proprietary software solutions.

The ideal candidate should have experience in developing PostgreSQL databases, creating stored procedures, and triggers, as well as familiarity with curl, Linux, shell scripting, upgrade strategies, and backing up the databases.

Responsibilities include:

• Design, develop, and maintain PostgreSQL databases
• Create and maintain stored procedures and triggers to ensure the efficient operation of the database
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate database solutions into our applications
• Identify and troubleshoot database issues and performance bottlenecks
• Write efficient and optimized SQL queries to retrieve and manipulate data
• Develop and maintain database documentation, including data dictionaries, ER diagrams, and user guides
• Ensure data integrity and security by implementing appropriate access controls, backups, and disaster recovery procedures, including database backup.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred (will consider work experience in lieu of formal education)
• At least 3 years of experience in developing PostgreSQL databases, stored procedures, and triggers
• Strong understanding of database design principles and query optimization techniques
• Experience with data migration and database performance tuning
• Familiarity with curl for making API requests
• Familiarity with Linux and shell scripting
• Knowledge of upgrade strategies for PostgreSQL databases
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Ability to self direct and manage time effectively in a remote work environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with PostgreSQL extensions, such as PostGIS or PL/Python
• Knowledge of Agile methodologies and software development lifecycle (SDLC)
• Familiarity with Google Cloud SQL or Cloud Spanner
