Role Description
In this role, you will lead engagement with utilities on various topics, including interconnection, electric and gas rates, EVSE infrastructure incentives, project scoping, timelines, and cost. The Power Interconnection Manager will drive our strategy for the interconnection of EV charging hubs, providing input to the Site Acquisition and Project Development and Deployment teams. This critical role will drive the business's success by creating a smooth path to powering up our sites. You will report to the Director of Energy & Utilities. You will collaborate closely with the Real Estate, Regulatory, Construction, Finance, and Product and Sales teams.
You will leverage your in-depth knowledge of interconnecting large loads with utility and grid owners, working across Distribution and Transmission level interconnections. You will have a detailed understanding of the interconnection process, including engineering studies, application process, cost for interconnection and reimbursement of utility-owned assets, and how this ties into building a large project. You will have familiarity with utility rates at both the Commercial and Industrial levels. Experience negotiating new tariff structures with utilities and navigating utility incentive programs for EV charging infrastructure is a plus. A growth mindset and the ability to innovate are necessary for this role - you will encounter many “first of their kind” situations. You will have a hand in driving how the market develops. The ability to drive up the speed of interconnection while driving the cost down is critical for success in this role.

  • Collaborate closely and provide inputs to the Site Acquisition and Project Development and Deployment teams for utility timelines, interconnection application, and construction timelines.
  • Manage utility consultants as needed for projects
  • Own key project milestones and deliverables and manage delivery dates
  • Understand and make critical recommendations regarding timing, cost, and economic trade-offs involved with load interconnection when installing behind-the-meter generation.
  • Be a problem solver when utility bottlenecks or failures are causing project delays or reliability incidents.
  • Inform the Company's energy and interconnection strategy through collaboration with the Operations, Product, Business Development, Finance, and Real Estate teams
  • Be a principal evangelist for the electrification of transport and the Company’s role in making it happen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience with one or more of the following: behind-the-meter and front-of-meter renewable energy generation, battery storage, and/or conventional generation; interconnection of large loads; and utility interconnection.
  • Experience in California and Western energy markets; experience in other energy markets is a plus.
  • Deep understanding of utility electric rate structures.
  • Experience with utility coordination process for CA utilities; experience in other energy territories is a plus.
