We are part of a world-class product development organization that pioneers industry-leading hardware designs for IBM POWER Systems servers as well as Storage Quantum and IBM Research. Within this organization the IBM thermal design team is seeking a technician to set up and execute thermal tests for a variety of hardware configurations from early conceptual mockups to fully functional complex server assemblies.
Job Duties :
Work as a member of our thermal engineering team designing and developing cooling systems and related technologies for our high-end computer servers from concept through field support. Our thermal lab technician role supports all thermal testing and lab operations for our team with responsibilities that include:
Performing tests to characterize thermal components such as fans heat sinks and cold plates as well as testing of server prototypes or other thermal assemblies.
Fabrication and instrumentation of thermal test assemblies prototype servers and lab test fixtures.
“Working with your hands” to assemble and instrument test equipment and high-tech components
Performing functional system level thermal testing of IBM Power servers and other IBM products in lab and test chamber environments. Becoming proficient in bring up and exercise of systems is a must for this role along with the collection and reduction of thermal test data.
A desire to automate tasks (self-teach code like lab view or other) in down-time
Additional responsibilities may include ordering of parts and supplies supporting lab safety security asset management calibration and other lab operations.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
• Successful completion of the IBM Apprenticeship Program
• Experience with Microsoft Excel PowerPoint and Word
• Self-starter self-motivated and able to independently drive tasks to completion
• Willingness to work hands on with mechanical components
• Must be effective working in a team-based atmosphere
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
• Electronics technician skills
• Experience in a development lab environment with some knowledge of thermal or similar testing (thermocouples wind tunnel testing data acquisition etc.)
• Lab automation coding skills (Linux command line Python or similar)
