Job Description
The Practice Writer, Grades 2-5 Math will work closely with the Editorial Lead for Math, K-12, writing and editing Amplify Math student-facing practice sets for Grades 2-5. The Practice Writer will report to the Editorial Lead for Math, K-12.
*This is a Part-Time, Contract role.
Responsibilities:
- Write and edit one (two-page) practice set per lesson for an assigned grade, or multiple grades (Grades 2-5). This includes student-facing practice sets (including answers and student sample explanations) and teacher-facing practice problem analysis (DOK levels and standards).
- Write on-lesson practice problems, spiral review problems, fluency practice problems, and test prep style problems, with an average of about 6-8 total problems per lesson (all types combined). There are about 7-8 units per grade and about 15-20 lessons per unit.
- Ensure consistency of voice and adherence to program style, vision, and philosophy.
- Ensure that practice sets meet with strict problem specifications defined at the start of the project and page/character counts.
- Maintain an asset tracker for the creation of art. Review and approve art.
- Monitor writing and editing progress and ensure that it keeps pace with Amplify Math's production schedule. Meet all deadlines and be proactive with communication with the Amplify Math team.
Basic Requirements:
- 3+ years of editorial or copyediting experience with mathematics curriculum OR 3+ years of mathematics teaching experience, preferably in Grades 2-5 mathematics
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working effectively on teams with diverse priorities and focus, i.e., a Curriculum Team comprised of Curriculum Developers, Curriculum Managers, and Editors
Preferred Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience developing mathematics curriculum OR 5+ years of mathematics teaching experience, preferably in Grades 2-5 mathematics
- Experience using Google docs
