Work Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm

Your Impactful Role

Responsible for a variety of medical office/clerical tasks relating to claims processing; contact patients and responsible parties to resolve past-due accounts; investigates account status and initiates collection procedures.

  • Verify precertification within 48 hours of receiving notice.
  • Inform the clinical teams of precertification status as soon as it is submitted.
  • Analyze relative insurance information and determine actions necessary to obtain appropriate payment authorization for service provided.
  • Obtain treatment authorization and verification of benefits for all applicable medical consultation and elective services
  • Ensure that all information required by billing entities is properly recorded on all documents and is processed in accordance with protocols.
  • Handle a volume workload expeditiously, efficiently, and accurately.
  • Collect information concerning eligibility, provider status, benefits coverage, coordination of benefits, and subrogation.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Minimum 3 years in a medical office setting.
  • Prior experience using electronic scheduling and electronic medical software is a plus
  • Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and the use of modifiers preferred.
  • Knowledge of physician billing and/or collections.
  • Typing speed 55 wpm and the ability to use a calculator.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The employee will operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copy machine, computer, and other office equipment as necessary. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for long periods of time and to work in an environment that can be very stressful. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to deal with aggressive, hostile, and sometimes irrational behavior of patients and family members and can respond to all patients in a calm and professional manner.
