Job Description

Summary

The purpose of the position is to perform work on conventional/typical preservation projects for a variety of historic structures. This entails the full gamut of types, and includes some new construction, major restoration or rehabilitation, complete stabilization, significant alteration, etc.

Pay Rates
George Washington Birthplace National Monument, $29.23 - $34.12 per hour
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, $30.42 - $35.47 per hour
Valley Forge Natl Hist Park, $29.70 - 34.69 per hour

Conditions of Employment

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You will be required to complete a one-year trial period.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 8 nights per month. (Glen Canyon National Recreation Area) You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights per month. (Valley Forge National Historic Park) You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • You may be required to travel for training or other assignments.
  • You may be required obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.
  • Government housing may be available at King of Prussia, PA and Page, AZ.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
  1. Ability to Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT)
  2. Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc
  3. Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic)
  4. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading)
  5. Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment.
  6. Knowledge of materials
  7. Use of Measurements.
