How will you make an impact?

Within MGIC's Product Strategy department, you will play an integral role on the team that manages the process of mortgage insurance pricing development, implementation and execution. To accomplish this, you will:

  • Recommend changes to current pricing using internal models and internal and external data sources.
  • Develop customized pricing solutions as warranted and based on modeled indications.
  • Monitor volume of business by customer and rating variable. Report on results of monitoring to pricing management.
  • Submit indicated rates to pricing management for review and incorporate feedback.
  • Deliver detailed rate indications to pricing implementation team within allotted time.
  • Participate in review of internally developed models for reasonableness and consistency with pricing needs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of analyses performed.
  • Develop established procedures for regularly cadenced analyses.
  • Make recommendations to the pricing team regarding rate analysis and process improvements.
  • Responsible for organizing and maintaining file structures related to pricing analyses.


Do you have what it takes?

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in economics, math, finance, or related field
  • Successful completion of one to three actuarial exams preferred, or other demonstrated interest in insurance rate-making

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Project management principles
  • Demonstrated programming skills (e.g., SAS, R, Python, SQL, etc.) and use of Microsoft Excel
  • Risk management principles and concepts
  • Data analytics, reporting and data analysis tools
  • Skilled with tools to visually present data analysis such as Tableau or AWS

What does success look like?
  • First 30 days:
    • Learn about MGIC and the private mortgage insurance industry
    • Understand the responsibilities and goals of the pricing and product strategy team
    • Develop familiarity with tools used by the pricing team
    • Get acquainted with the pricing team and broader company


  • First 6 months:


  • Gain an understanding of MGIC data and tools
  • Analyze opportunities for rate changes and customized pricing
  • Work with the collective pricing team to implement the results of these analyses


  • First year:


  • Implement improvements in tools used to analyze pricing opportunities
  • Monitor segments of MGIC's customer base against volume expectations
  • Develop subject matter expertise in mortgage insurance pricing
