Principal BMS Firmware Engineer

American Battery Solutions has a full-time opening for a Principal BMS Firmware Engineer in Hudson, Massachusetts.

Job Summary:

The Principal BMS Firmware Engineer is responsible for owning the firmware architecture, design, development, and execution of BMS Components, and will work with global cross-functional teams including Product, Platforms, Quality Assurance (QA) and Hardware (HW) designers from concept to mass production. This is a green field opportunity to shape next generation of Battery Management System (BMS) for Electric Vehicles and Energy Storage Systems.

Responsibilities:

• Lead technical aspects of designing reliable EV battery solution with balance of safety, quality, cost, and large data collection at the center of it.
• Design and implement algorithms for State of Charge (SOC), State of Health (SOH), Cell balancing, and similar for various battery chemistry.
• Create and comply with ASIL-C / SIL-2 safety framework.
• Own the Firmware DFMEA and the diagnosis and mitigation aspects of battery alarms and thermal runaway.
• Work with System Engineers to define requirements, review schematics design and system behavior.
• Define system requirements and develop unit tests and software/hardware integration.
• Create and maintain a strong IP portfolio.
• Drive results within the constraints of product life cycle development and production at scale, providing Engineering support to factory.
• Represent the business unit at conferences, sister divisions and work with our partners and vendors.
• Coach global team members and create a global high-performance team.
• Stay current in battery technology and disseminate this information to other design centers. Communicate clearly, strongly, and effectively to small and large non-technical groups.
• Adhere to federal and state regulations.
• Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.
• Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Position Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, embedded software engineering, or a related field.
• Master's degree in electrical engineering, embedded software engineering, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of ten (10) years' experience in Embedded Field
• Experience with Micro Peripherals and managing large amounts of data in ARM Controllers.
• Previous experience with ARM M7 (Automotive), FreeRTOS, Wireless AFE, CAN-FD, RS-485, Ethernet, Modbus, SPI, Power Controls, Hardware in Loop, Python, C, and/or OTA (Over the Air) update.
• Hands on experience in various Battery chemistry and the supporting technology to manage it.
• Proven track record of development of battery algorithms and its implementation at scale.
• Thorough understanding of safety requirements for Li-Ion battery and Firmware implication to support it. ISO26262 preferred.
• Experience in Auto Industry (AUTOSAR or similar architecture)
• Experience analyzing large data sets and statistical analysis using programs like Python.
• Experience in signal/data processing, pattern recognition, data mining & classification would be a plus.
• Passion for agile software development, continuous deployment and working with Global teams.
• Knowledge of dev-ops followed in software industry, including but not limited to cmake, Static code analysis, Git, Jenkins and similar.
• Strong modeling skills using cell and Hardware in the Loop (HIL) preferred.
• Previous experience developing communication interface using CAN, Ethernet and RS-485, over J1939 is preferred.
