Job Description General Summary:
The Principal Business Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for all analytics related reporting across the entire transformation portfolio. They will leverage deep understanding across operations and analytics to research, identify, build and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPI). They will leverage their expertise to advise leadership on technical solutions and consult with teams on how to translate strategy into actionable, relatable, and measurable KPI's. This work will improve analytic capabilities across the organization to inform value performance and static decisions. They will work closely with the implementation teams on large-scale projects and ensure they are delivered to satisfactory completion. The ideal candidate will be passionate about all things data and we seek a creative and analytical thinker to help us solve our most challenging problems. The Principal BI Analyst will foster relationships across the organization to promote and support data driven decision making. This role will be critical in mentoring, developing, and coaching lower-level Analysts and may even at times manage a small team of Analysts.

Job Specifications
- Bachelors Degree preferred, and/or equivalent experience
- 8+ years with hand on analytics development & thought leadership experience
- Experience with analytics programming languages (SQL/R/Python)
- Excellent use of modern BI toolsets (Tableau or PowerBI)
- In-depth understanding of data profiling, statistical analysis and data modeling concepts
- Adept in extracting and leveraging data out of data warehouse, transactional databases, object stores & API based environments
- Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into sound technical solutions
- Ability to embrace change, adapt to the unexpected, and focus energies, people, and solutions on practical and positive results
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Strong communications skills with the ability to influence those in senior positions using data and logic
- Excellent leadership abilities including the ability to lead, mentor, coach and develop others
- Aptitude and drive to learn new technologies and analysis techniques
- Has strong track record in taking ownership for the design & implementation of technical solutions
- Strong team player; able to work effectively within a team and more broadly with people from a variety of backgrounds and areas across the organization.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Evaluate data and KPI ecosystem across all transformational initiatives to ensure effective, accurate and actional metrics will help drive strategic decision making.
- This role will serve as an extension of our Digital Analytics and Transformation teams.
- Deeply understand the business and transformation needs and translate this into technical analytics solutions & architecture
- Conduct highly complex data profiling and analysis and utilize such information to develop actionable insights for organizational strategic decisions
- Identify and promote new ways to release value from data for the wider company
- Develops a deep sense for Unum's operational and data storage architecture and evaluates data sources to determine the best source for business information
- Leads teams in identifying, acquiring, transforming and translating data into actionable dashboards, reports, algorithms or datasets
- Oversees statistical analysis and presents findings to guide and advise leadership, including those in senior leadership positions
- Develop and build upon existing expertise of the insurance industry, company, competitor landscape and overall emerging trends in the BI technology landscape
- Works directly with internal employees to refine requirements and validate output to ensure solutions will meet expectations

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$103,600.00-$202,100.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
