Position Summary
Effectual’s Principal Consultant for DevSecOps will be a leading member within the Professional Services (PS) team responsible for technical leadership of customer-facing projects ensuring that solutions address customer business objectives in efficient, maintainable, leading practice ways. Principal Consultants partner with Effectual Engagement Managers (EMs) to deliver projects with exceptional customer and Effectual team satisfaction. Effectual Principal Consultants are “Brand Ambassadors” and are expected to stay current on leading practices to deliver high-quality, well-conceived solutions to customers that demonstrates Effectual’s experience and expertise.

What makes a successful Principal Consultant?

Effectual’s Principal Consultant for DevSecOps will be a skilled technologist who stays current on leading DevSecOps practices and technologies, acts in the interests of our customers to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions to their needs, and balances competing priorities between multiple parallel project deliveries to achieve defined business outcomes on behalf of our customers. Principal Consultants are problem solvers who see blockers and challenges as opportunities to find a new path to success; the words “good enough” and “impossible” aren’t in their vocabulary. Effectual’s Principal Consultant for DevSecOps will be an expert in Automation and Orchestration technologies, specifically the HashiCorp suite of Automation tooling (Terraform, Vault, Consul, etc.) and will be recognized for critical thinking, in-depth analysis, business acumen and capable of designing solutions to complex business challenges using cloud-native tools.

Principal Consultants possess a strong desire to continue to learn about emerging technologies, and a passion for supporting the high-quality delivery of technical projects. Principal Consultants are as comfortable working in a hands-on capacity as they are meeting with anyone from the C-Suite down to the engineering team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Championing technical excellence by:
  • Providing accurate and insightful contributions towards long term cloud adoption programs that incorporate multiple variables such as existing technical stacks, skillsets, processes, security and compliance requirements and ultimate desired business outcomes
  • Establishing a short, medium, and long term adoption road map that is considerate of clients risk tolerance, current capabilities and constraints as well as their ambitions and goals
  • Driving the implementation of leading practices, processes, methodologies, and architecture for strategic clients
  • Architecting and building highly scalable, cloud-native solutions on the AWS platform using core developer services with a particular expertise in AWS’s and HashiCorp’s suite of commercial products
  • Being accountable for the overall technical success of client projects
  • Conducting cost-benefit and risk-reward analyses
  • Designing solutions, development and deployment plans, and high-level solution validation processes for execution by delivery teams
  • Working with technology management to refine project management processes to continually improve technical delivery efficacy
  • Assisting in prioritizing and sequencing infrastructure projects, supporting project work breakdown activities, helping to remove roadblocks, and collaboratively resolving disagreements related to solution design
• Fostering continual learning and collaboration by:
  • Serving as a mentor to team members around leading practices
  • Educating clients on solution rationale and leading practices
  • Building consensus amongst all technical stakeholders
  • Supporting rigorous project governance and execution achieved through:
    • Meeting with team members daily to review progress
    • Holding team members accountable for and challenging team members on technical solution implementation approaches to achieve optimal outcomes
    • Submitting time on assigned projects, daily
  • Supporting project delivery team members by:
    • Always operating with transparency
    • Being responsive to requests from team members for information
    • Communicating working preferences and understanding the working preferences of others to help develop a high-performing team that operates with respect, effectiveness, and efficiency
  • Able to travel up to 20%

Essential Skills and Experience

• 5+ years of continual, prior experience working in such roles as: Solution Architect, DevOps Engineer, Technology Strategist, Enterprise Architect, with at least:
  • 3+ years architecting AWS infrastructure
  • 3+ years developing solutions leveraging HashiCorp’s Commercial versions of Terraform & Vault
• 3+ years of DevOps / SRE experience working in AWS environment(s) and / or supporting software development team(s) consisting of at least:
  • 1+ year of experience developing AWS cloud infrastructure
  • 1+ year of experience developing CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub, and Terraform
  • 1+ year of experience creating automated alerts and monitoring dashboards
• At least one (1) HashiCorp certification
• Strong working knowledge of leading AWS cloud security practices
• Proficient in developing Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g.: Terraform / AWS CloudFormation)
• Proficient in coding configuration management tooling (e.g.: Ansible, Chef, Puppet, etc.)
• Proficient in at least one or more programming / scripting languages (e.g.: Python, Java, Groovy, etc.)
• Demonstrable knowledge of Agile and Waterfall SDLC methodologies
• Ability to work with multiple clients in parallel
• Exceptional communication and time management

Nice-to-Have Skills and Experience

• Additional HashiCorp or AWS certifications (e.g.: Developer Associate, Sysops Administrator Associate, Solution Architect Associate, Vault Associate, Vault Operations Professional, etc.)
• Prior management experience although that will not be directly required since this is an individual contributor role
• Container development
• Container orchestration using platforms such as Kubernetes, Docker, AWS EKS, etc.
• Implementing static and dynamic code analysis tools within CI/CD pipelines
• Use of code analysis tools such as AWS X-Ray, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, etc.

Salary Range

• $118,000 - $200,000 annual salary, commensurate with skill level and experience
