Job DescriptionÂWhat You’ll DoÂ
Coverage attorney within Payments Legal team, with responsibility for advisory and transactional matters for Discover’s network businesses.
How You’ll Do ItÂ
- Review, draft, and negotiate moderate complexity agreements and, with supervision, higher complexity agreements.Â
- Provide thoughtful and creative legal advice and guidance to internal business partners on exiting and new Payments initiatives, existing and new legal requirements, emerging risks and trends, and regulatory matters impacting Discover’s network businesses.
- Develop strong understanding of Discover’s network businesses, payments industry, and business units assigned to her/his coverage area.
- Develops strong collaborative relationship with business and risk partners, colleagues within legal organization and others.
- Exercise prudent discretion and decision-making capabilities to draft contracts and other service agreements, complete projects, and enhance programs or processes relevant to assigned SME.
- Demonstrate leadership in taking initiative to improve the quality of team processes.
- Consult with outside counsel and subject matter experts as appropriate.
- Utilize Discover contract management tool to manage workflow, track contracts and retain accurate contract records.
- Escalate advisory and transactional issues to management as appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, business partners, management, and parties external to Discover.Â
- Ensure effective risk and compliance management by adhering to required standards and processes.Â
- Collaborate with colleagues on the Payments Legal team and broader Legal Organization on continuous process improvements.
Qualifications You’ll Need

- JD
- 1+ years of Legal experience supporting financial services products and services, or job related
Bonus Points If You HaveÂ
- 3+ years of Legal experience supporting financial services products and services, or job related
- Active law license in good standing
