Principal Data Analyst

Responsible for activities related to development of performance management reports designed to measure critical performance metrics to established standards so our Program Managers can make timely and informed decisions that improve our delivery of services to all customers at the lowest responsible cost to optimize profit and returns to the company in the most efficient and safest manner.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain data models: You will be responsible for creating and maintaining data models that support the organization's analytical needs. This includes designing data structures, defining data transformations, and developing data pipelines.
• Possesses broad expertise and unique knowledge of Power BI, Excel, SQL and work management systems such as MAXIMO.
• Ensure data accuracy and consistency: responsible for ensuring the accuracy and consistency of the data used in analysis. This includes implementing data quality checks and monitoring data quality over time.
• Build and maintain data visualization dashboards that provide insights to program managers. This includes selecting appropriate visualization tools, designing dashboard layouts, and ensuring data accuracy.
• Contributes to development of company objectives to improve performance.
• Leads the implementation of tools and processes to maintain program-wide data standards.
• Recommend & implement solutions to issues found in current business processes.
• Member of new contract transition teams to ensure contract data, job numbers and interface of business systems (CostPoint, MAXIMO) provide seamless and efficient data flow.
• Helps new contracts define the scope, establish performance management reports and design analytical solutions that meet business needs.
• Determines business areas where data analysis can drive growth.
• Develops recommendations for improvement based on analysis.
• Collaborate with IT Systems personnel and program managers to identify key data metrics and develop solutions to obtain the data with frequency needed to update reports.
• Works on significant, complex, and unique issues where analysis of situations and data lead to root cause issues that need addressed.
• Exercise independent judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to meet results
• Chairs periodic knowledge share discussions with other members of the team.
• Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments.
• Mentor junior analysts: Responsible for mentoring and providing guidance on data analysis techniques and best practices.
• Capable of presenting outcomes of analytic solutions in a format easily understood by a non-technical audience.
• Stay current with industry trends and best practices.
• Responsible for staying current with industry trends and best practices in data analysis and recommending new tools and techniques to improve the organization's analytical capabilities.
• Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field is preferred with 8+ years of experience in the field of data analysis and analytics, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and training.
• Needs to understand operations terminology, measures, concepts, and principles for compiling critical performance metrics.
• Proficiency in Power BI: The candidate should have expertise in Power BI and its various features such as data modeling, report development, visualization, and dashboard creation.
• Strong SQL Skills: The candidate should have experience with SQL, including writing and optimizing complex queries and working with large data sets.
• Expertise in DAX: The candidate should have a strong understanding of DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) and be able to create complex calculations and measures using DAX functions.
• Data Modeling Skills: The candidate should be proficient in creating data models and have experience with various data modeling techniques such as star and snowflake schemas.
• Excellent Analytical Skills: The candidate should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to analyze data to identify trends and insights.
• Experience with ETL Processes: The candidate should have experience with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and be able to design and implement them using tools like SSIS or Azure Data Factory.
• Familiarity with Cloud Platforms: The candidate should have experience working with cloud platforms like Azure or AWS and be able to use them for data storage, processing, and analysis.
• Position will need a US Government Top-Secret Security Clearance or ability to obtain this clearance for some programs to access the data needed. Note: US citizenship is required to obtain a US Government Top Secret Security Clearance.
• Position will need to travel to work directly with operations/finance and work management teams.
• Must have a valid driver's license.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.
