This team within Store N°8 is working on healthcare innovations because Walmart's promise is to help its customers save money and live better . This includes building products that enhance both their physical and emotional wellbeing.
About the Role
As a Principal Data Scientist for one of our Store N°8's portfolio companies, your focus will be finding trends in data sets and developing next-generation algorithms to make the data useful for projects within our incubator. Reporting directly to the Head of Health Data Science, you will partner with data engineering, product, Health & Wellness, store operations, and legal teams.
You will need to be a self-starter with bias for action and excellent communication skills. This is a rare opportunity, moving at the speed of a startup, with the backing and in house data (lots of data) of the Fortune 1 company. You will bridge the art of what's possible across today's rapidly evolving healthcare data and informatics landscape.
What You'll Do
- Join a newly created team as one of the early data scientists and have a significant opportunity to make an impact by prototyping next-generation data products in the health and wellness space.
- Build ML models to uncover healthcare signals to help customers and improve health outcomes optimize their care journey.
- Analyze complex data elements and develop data models that are easily digestible to help the team make best decisions based off the data.
- Lead discovery phases integrating with multiple internal systems and teams to ingest data and identify new ideas in the space.
- Design experimentation and leverage causal inferences to support product testing and rollout.
What You'll Need
- Master's or PhD degree in STEM or relevant field; Professional experience in DS, ML, DL, or RL.
- Extensive experience with machine learning and deep learning packages (scikit-learn, lightGBM, Tensorflow or PyTorch).
- Experience writing complex SQL queries to surface insights from vast amounts of data.
- Significant programing experience in Python, Spark etc.; Comfortable implementing algorithms from academic papers and building data pipelines.
- Practical experience with cloud services (Google Cloud Platform etc.).
- Familiarity with experimentation design or causal inferences.
A plus if you also have
- Experience with health care data (claims, EMR) and its regulations.
- Thrives in fast-paced start-up environment, including balancing multiple projects and dealing with ambiguity.
- Contribution to external open-source projects.
- Agile experience with emphasis on rapid prototyping.
- Understanding of container technologies like Kubernetes
Minimum Qualifications
- Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 4 years' experience in an analytics or related field.
- Option 2: Master's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 2 years' experience in an analytics or related field.
- Option 3: 6 years' experience in an analytics or related field.

The annual salary range for this position is $184,000.00-$260,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives.
Additional compensation for certain positions may also include:
- Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location)
- Stock equity incentives
