Principal Data Scientist Lead , Health & Wellness, Stealth Project
This is the opportunity to get in early with a stealth health & wellness project currently incubating in Walmart's Store N o 8. At Store N o 8, the team will discover and deliver the insights that will power the future of healthcare for our customers, through the unparalleled scale of Walmart's platform. In this role, you will lead the data science team from initial design to development and production. You will work closely with the core Store N o 8 team, and our partners within the Walmart Health & Wellness business.

About the role:
As Principal Data Scientist Lead, you will own all data science and advanced analytics decisions required to stand up and scale this high priority initiative inside of Store N o 8. You will help lead a team and develop the roadmap to bring the vision to life. You will coordinate with leaders from Store N o 8 and Walmart's Health & Wellness organization to design and build the solution that achieves Walmart's strategic goals. You will be empowered to build at the speed of a startup with the full support of Walmart's massive scale and resources.
What you'll do:
- Leverage your data science expertise to build a source of sustained competitive advantage for Walmart in identifying, integrating, mining, and applying diverse healthcare data
- Uncover insights for clinicians, care givers and patients to optimize their care journey and improve health outcome
- Evaluate strengths and weaknesses of existing and new data sources (e.g., clinical, claims, Rx, synthetic) and develop and appropriate data science strategy to support insight generation from these data sources
- Coach and mentor a team of data scientists to foster a culture of success
- Drive disciplined and transparent decision-making processes to shape informatics approaches and strategies to achieve defined goals
- Act as an internal and external spokesperson for the initiative
- Present complex data science concepts and principles in simple, concise, and clear business terms
- Enable cross-functional learning about about data science concepts and principles as applied to relevant use cases through a program of information sharing and education sessions (e.g. colloquia)
- Collaborate with Health & Wellness team, Global Tech team, product teams, ecosystem partners, and managed contract vendors
- Manage and develop top-tier talent, including recruitment, engagement, and well-being
Experience:
- Health data and biomedical informatics/analytics leadership role, with robust network across healthcare industry stakeholders
- Superb communication and relationship skills, including the ability to work with and present to C-level executives and board members; proven ability to influence strategic decision making
- Deep technical experience leading data science teams combining various forms of health data to uncover new insights and novel data science approaches (e.g., clinical, pharmacy, claims) in broad array of use cases including population health and chronic disease management
- In-depth experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to align health data science efforts with regulatory compliance, and business and clinical value
- Expertise with clinical data standards, medical terminologies and vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies; recognized as an informatics/ISA expert
- Demonstrated ability to manage full-time and contract teammates, both in-person and remote
- Strong record of delivering data science projects with significant impact
- Experience directing budgets, and resources to achieve maximum value
- Strong track record of delivering large, cross functional projects
- Contribution to external open source projects a plus
- Success in an entrepreneurial environment, ideally within a high growth technology company
- Experience and passion for rapid prototyping and development in a fast-paced environment
- MS or PhD in bioinformatics or equivalent with a strong publication record preferred
A plus if you also have:
- Experience with health care data (claims, EMR) and its regulations.
- Thrives in fast-paced start-up environment, including balancing multiple projects and dealing with ambiguity.
- Contribution to external open-source projects.
- Agile experience with emphasis on rapid prototyping.
- Understanding of container technologies like Kubernetes

- Option 3: 7 years' experience in an analytics or related field.

The annual salary range for this position is $184,000.00-$260,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives.
Additional compensation for certain positions may also include:
- Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location)
- Stock equity incentives
