The Opportunity
Cala Health is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our growing team. The role will include working with an experienced team and being responsible for design, development, testing and driving continuous improvements for our revolutionary health products. This role will be heavy on individual contribution with the support and possible management of a small team of more junior level electrical engineers and technicians.
Specific Responsibilities also include:
• Develop products with hardware/peripherals, including motion sensors, flash memory, analog hardware, wireless communication
• Design PCBs (schematic, layout, bringup, etc) in cross-functional collaboration
• Debug hardware issues to root cause using common lab tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc)
• Lead technicians to rapidly prototype, debug, and improve designs
• Lead risk analyses in relation to electrical circuit and component failure modes
• Lead procurement of PCBAs and components
• Work closely with firmware engineers to bring up new hardware and debug current hardware.
• Work closely with mechanical engineers to ensure design fits space, thermal, and robustness needs
• Work closely with Operations team to identify vendors, transition designs to production, and develop manufacturing test plans
• Work closely with Quality to qualify vendors, release designs, perform risk management activities, and review complaints
• Lead testing for regulatory submission such as IEC-60601 and FCCPart15.
Desired Skills and Experience:
We are looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to support product development in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment, exemplified by:
• 8+ years’ hardware design experience
• Extensive Experience in Electro-mechanical Design, Medical Devices, Design Controls and Clinical Study support.
• Experience with generating, designing to and testing to requirements
• Demonstrated troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
• BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (MS Preferred)
• Experience with interfacing to microcontrollers, preferably Cortex-M series
• Experience with relevant technologies such as battery management, switching power supplies, BLE, LTE, hardware debug, sensors
• Experience with antenna selection and design
• Proficient with Altium
• Experience writing protocols, reports and executing Design Verification Testing and standards testing, including IEC-60601, EMC, Safety, FCC, SAR
• Extensive experience with rigid and flexible PCB fabrication, assembly and large scale DFM.
• Excellent team, person-to-person communication skills and written skills.
