Your role with Baxter

The successful candidate will craft, develop, deploy, and evolve the software applications that run within our embedded Linux based products. In this role you will work with a global cross-functional team whose primary objective is to bring new medical device in the patient monitoring space to market, using groundbreaking technology. Secondary to product development is the evolution of the features and offerings of our core software driving our mission of saving and sustaining lives.

What you'll be doing

• Work on a multi-functional engineering team that is responsible for the delivery of software releases for new and existing medical devices
• Collaborate and coordinate with multi-functional engineering teams of various fields (systems, EE, SW, QA) to capture requirements and develop work item backlogs
• Collaborate with other specialists on the implementation of new software features in an agile environment
• Software verification and validation through code reviews and automated testing as part of our continuous integration
• Knowledge and implementation of design principles and recognized design patterns to increase reusability.
• Investigating and troubleshooting sophisticated runtime failures in an embedded Linux environment
• Creation of software design documentation to meet medical device regulatory requirements.

What you'll bring

• Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, or a related field
• 4+ years of experience in a software development role within a Linux operating environment
• Significant experience with C/C++ in developing and build software for embedded Linux systems.
• Experience with scripting languages, specifically Python and Shell
• Strong understanding of Linux operating environments and GNU based cross-compiler toolchains.
• Strong understanding of configuration management practices and Git
• Experience with software testing and test automation
• Strong communication and documentation skills

Preferred Skills

• Medical device experience and a working knowledge of software development life cycle processes, IEC 62304.
• Experience with UML and software architecture
• Good working knowledge on UART, USB, and TCP/IP communication protocols

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $68,000 to $156,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
