Principal Engineer, Backend

The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented Principal Engineer, Backend to help lead the development, deployment and management of our web services and related infrastructure to join our engineering team. Members of the engineering team work collaboratively as a group and with colleagues in technology, who are devising new speech recognition solutions, and product management to deploy systems and infrastructure to serve the needs of end-user professionals and enterprise clients across a number of verticals.

• Drive the development of cutting-edge web services that support next-gen speech recognition solutions, directly influencing how professionals and enterprises interact with voice technology.
• Play a key role in building infrastructure that serves a diverse range of industries, impacting businesses across healthcare, finance, education, and more.
• Design and deploy backend systems that ensure seamless, reliable performance, enhancing productivity and efficiency for end-users across various professional domains.
• Lead cross-functional teams, collaborating with product management and technology experts, to deliver robust and scalable backend solutions that align with strategic goals.
• Contribute to the long-term scalability and reliability of our web services, ensuring the infrastructure can meet the growing demands of enterprise clients globally.
• Take on a leadership role within the engineering team, mentoring junior engineers and helping to define the technical direction of the company.

We're looking for someone who

• BS/MS in Computer Science from a top school, or have substantial production server experience (or equivalent)
• 10+ years of experience in developing/architecting large scale systems
• Hands-on coding and development in Python, C++, Java and other languages
• Experience with platforms such as Nginx, Kafka, MySQL, Cassandra, Redis, and other scalable systems
• Familiar with DevOps platforms such as Ansible, Salt, Docker, Kubernetes and AWS
• Strong ability to write and debug high performance code that is reusable, scalable, testable and efficient
• Leadership experience in architecting and leading large scale engineering projects across multiple teams
• Ability to engineer systems designed for high growth and rapid scale
• Ability to communicate effectively with peers in design, product management, data insights, and engineering to respond to requirements and diagnose problems

Salary range

Salary Range: $260,000 to $310,000 USD per year.

This salary range represents the low and high end of the estimated salary range for this position. The actual base salary offered for the role is dependent on several factors. Our base salary is just one component of a comprehensive total rewards package.
