Principal Engineer, FPGA Firmware Engineering
Job Description
The Advanced Data-Converter Platforms Group (ADG) is seeking a motivated, senior-level FPGA Development Engineer to provide support to our Aerospace & Defense Business Unit. The goal of the ADG FPGA Team is to develop and deploy high quality FPGA and SoC solutions to internal and external customers which enable them to evaluate and test ultra-wideband ADG products, and ultimately to build their own systems and end-products for multiple applications and market segments, including electronic test equipment, wideband communication systems, and Aerospace & Defense subsystems. This role requires an energetic and motivated individual with strong communication, organizational, and technical skills who works well in a diverse environment across a geographically distributed organization. Primary location of employment is ADI's new Research Triangle Park campus in North Carolina, but our Wilmington, Massachusetts campus and other locations will also be considered.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Translate functional requirements into FPGA designs using HDL, IP, and embedded software
- Optimize FPGA design performance using simulations, timing analysis, and constraints
- Develop test benches and perform design verification
- Write low-level C drivers for FPGA IP blocks
- Write TCL and Python scripts for design compilation and verification
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems on FPGA designs, hardware, and systems
- Support the evaluation and test of new products in the lab and on ATE
- Provide FPGA support for customer design-ins
- Participate in design reviews, create documentation, present information, and produce demonstrations
- Work in a cross-functional team environment that includes close interaction with digital design engineers, product/test engineers and applications/marketing engineers
Qualifications
- BS/MS in electrical and/or computer engineering
- 7+ years of experience with FPGA and/or SoC programming
- Significant experience with Verilog programming, digital design, and embedded software
- Significant experience with Gigabit Transceivers and high-speed memory interfaces
- Experience with C, TCL, Python, Bash, and Make
- Experience working with high-speed converters is very beneficial
- Motivated and creative problem solver with good writing, presentation, and overall communication skills
- Has a bias for action and works in collaboration with others to deliver high quality results
- Vision to work with leading edge technology and push it forward
- Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects and set priorities to deliver on schedule
