Principal Engineer II - Network Automation (Hybrid)

** This position is eligible to work in a hybrid work model (combination of in-office and remote days). **
JOB SCOPE
Charter is proud to have a network that provides service to millions of customers across the US. The Network Engineering team is responsible for the implementation of approved network architecture and designs. Under limited supervision, this Principle Engineer position designs, deploys and maintains critical automation platforms that drives the network platform audit, compliance, remediation, reporting and other critical functions. This position requires a strong knowledge of Linux operating systems and services, container environments, front end web design, python development and will be responsible for the day to day operations and maintenance of various systems and ancillary applications that support internal Core & Backbone platforms. As a member of the team, you will architect, develop and implement applications and system enhancements. You will be sought after for recommendations for improvement and to drive additions and changes needed to support these efforts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Creates and leads network automation
• Maintains CBO's automation platforms and associated systems
• Assigned complex and critical projects that involve several technical systems and constituents
• Designs, implements, monitors, enhances and troubleshoots systems in assigned areas
• Analyzes and revises existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary
• Tests and reviews system designs
• Provides engineering technical support and guidance within the team, to other teams and ensures all technical integration, changes, standards and documentation requirements are met
• Mentors and guides the work of other technical staff
• Reviews work plans and designs and advises on improvements

Adheres to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable
BASIC / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, and / or equivalent work experience
• Minimum of two (4) years system administration experience
• Minimum two (4) years of experience with Linux operating systems, preferably Red Hat / CentOS.
• Minimum two (4) years of software development primarily using Python
• Minimum two (3) years of experience with automation tools such as Chef/Ansible
• At least two (3) years of web front-end design

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with Shell scripting, TCP/IP and networking concepts, system security best practices and system monitoring
• Capable of managing systems in a large scale, high availability, multi-site environment
• Experience working in DevOps practices and tools
• Experience with Postgresql/MySQL, Splunk, SNMP, and other monitoring tools/technologies
• Experience with container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
• Scripting and/or programming expertise (e.g. Python, Perl, shell)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• PCEP, PCAP and PCPP certifications or equivalent experience
• TypeScript/Vue.js experience
• Django/Flask/FastAPI experience
• Other Industry and vendor specific certifications, training (Python, Chef, DevOps, Network Technologies)
• Advanced knowledge of network automation platforms and techniques
• Advanced knowledge of concurrent, parallel and asynchronous programming design and techniques
• Advanced knowledge of postgresql design and operation
• Advanced knowledge of restful api design, operation and interaction
• Advanced knowledge and experience working in a multi-vendor network environment including IOS-XR, IOS, IOS-XE, NX-OS, Junos, and other common network equipment CLI and Netconf
• Working knowledge of PEP8 programming practices
• Ability to read, understand and effectively convey RFC and IEEE standards and concepts

The pay for this position has a salary range of
$124,000.00 to $220,000.00. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and location. Also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses.
