Principal Engineer, Program Technical Lead

Vicarious Surgical is hiring a Principal Engineer, Program Technical Lead to join our team in Waltham, MA. In this role, you will be the overall technical lead of our surgical robotics platform at a program level, providing guidance to a technical team composed of engineering leads, and acting as the design authority responsible for product development deliverables. Your role will be responsible for decisions related to complex high-level design trade-offs, program and product risk mitigation, technical problem solving, and cross-functional, cross-subteam implementation decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead a technical team composed of engineering leads, act as the design authority responsible for product development deliverables. Your role will be responsible for decisions related to complex high-level design trade-offs, program and product risk mitigation, technical problem solving, and cross-functional, cross-subteam implementation decisions.
• Work cross-functionally to support and guide cross-subsystem architecture, engineering, integration decisions, timelines and requirements and proactively identify and resolve technical issues.
• Provide guidance to translate feature requests into technical specifications and analyze and manage high-level technical risks.
• Impart leadership and perspective to drive product development leads to decisions in ambiguous situations.
• Guide the technical team to create innovative technology and ensure that we successfully execute our design controls process and deliver a high-quality system.  Technical signatory for all program level technical design reviews.
• Work with project management to build and manage the technical deliverable schedule.  Ensure program level technical risks and resolution plans are communicated to leadership.
• Provide technical work direction, technical guidance, coaching and mentorship to other engineers.
• Make data informed decisions using appropriate analytical methodologies and drive an approach to help stakeholders make the right trade-offs.
• Prepare for and support various design reviews in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Verify that designs meet functional requirements through the performance of engineering analyses and testing.
• Support Test Engineering team on generation of test methods, acceptance criteria, and test equipment for all stages of product development
  

About You

• Minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, such as Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical, etc.
• 15+ years of overall experience with continuing increasing responsibilities in engineering; including 7+ years of  medical device industry working on complex systems
• Experience and success leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams through development process in a formal technical leadership and / or architecting role
• Significant experience in the successful delivery of complex technology programs
• Experience leading and managing programs, resource allocation, planning, and risk mitigation
• Experience transitioning from prototypes to commercial product
