Principal External Communications Manager
Job Description
In this role, you will develop a communication strategy that helps our brand awareness and positive brand sentiment, increase share-of-voice, strengthen our corporate reputation, and manage media relations and social media on a range of corporate reputation and environmental, social and governance topics. You will leverage your public relations or integrated communications background along with your ability to lead innovative and robust communications plans, to write creative and engaging content to tell our story, build audiences, connect with stakeholders and influencers, manage social media, and help ensure initiatives are prioritized effectively while collaborating across internal teams.
We offer hybrid flexibility, giving you the opportunity to work from the office (Eden Prairie, MN) and from home.
Responsibilities:
- Create a communication strategy for external audiences to enhance our corporate reputation, including key messaging and content for media and influencer relations (e.g., press releases, pitches, social media, blogs, and spokesperson prep material) specific to our corporate goals and ESG strategy efforts
- Facilitate meetings regularly with internal division leaders to provide public relations lens into corporate reputation and ESG initiatives as well as develop strategies and materials related to earned visibility and PR opportunities to optimize multi-channel execution of campaigns
- Develop content for and assist in the management and monitoring of enterprise social media channels and external blogs
- Consistently monitor local, regional, and national media, identifying opportunities to drive paid, earned, shared, and owned content through print, online, and broadcast coverage
- Manage and foster media and influencer relationships that help generate awareness and interest.
- Create and run media lists and pitching schedules
- Lead event planning and management as needed, including PR/ press interview coordination, social promotion, etc.
- Measure results and impact of initiatives, including social media and media relations efforts, producing comprehensive reports
- Develop unique story angles to secure coverage on an ongoing basis
- Partner with ESG team, DEI team, marketing, sales, legal, and other business functions
- Manage several projects in various stages of development
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned according to the team and/or country specific requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Minimum 7 years of media relations experience and a track record of successfully persuading journalists to cover various stories, launches and topics important to the company
- Minimum 6 years of experience working on social media content for a company brand with solid understanding of how to deliver engaging organic social media posts as well as managing paid social ads on Facebook and LinkedIn
- Ability to travel up to 10% (domestically)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Mix of PR agency and corporate communications experience, in addition to event planning and management
- Talented writer requiring minimal editing on drafts of press releases, media pitches, blog posts, social copy, and other written content
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills; able to prioritize, multi-task, and meet expected deadlines
- Experience navigating relationships and workflows across multiple divisions and/or teams
- Ability to collaborate with a wide variety of colleagues at varying levels and departments
