Principal Industrial Designer - User Terminals

Your role in helping us shape the future:
As a Principal Industrial Designer, you will help design user terminal solutions that transform our Managed service experience, enhancing Intelsat's position in the marketplace. You will work with internal and external stakeholders to design innovative user terminal Products for a range of target market segments, delivering value for both Solution Partners and end users and strengthening our partnerships with sector OEMs and third parties. We are looking for a creative, collaborative industrial designer that understands the end user experience and is familiar with user terminal technology trends in the Satcoms sector, with a demonstrated passion for designing innovative user solutions to transform and optimize the Customer Experience. You will be part of a highly collaborative, cross-functional Product Development team that derives and delivers against Intelsat's Development Roadmap, working to achieve related business goals and ultimately realize our strategic vision for connected end user experiences.
Your primary role will be to collaboratively design and develop a range of user terminals to support new / enhanced Managed Service Products, with emphasis on differentiating Intelsat terminal Products in the market. You will work closely with both Product Development and Innovations to apply industrial design expertise to realize user terminal solutions that simplify the install, access and overall Customer experience for the service. As a leading contributor, you will support the delivery of terminal outcomes, solutions and commitments on behalf of Product Development.
Are you up to the challenge?

• Design the user terminal solutions, from initial concept visualization to Prototype and Production Terminal Products - across multiple markets
• Partner with Technical Product Management and CX team to understand needs/pain points vs target sector relevant to the user terminal and end-user experience
• Partner with Commercial stakeholders to iteratively design and evolve user terminal concepts vs sector, translating into a limited/defined set of core terminal designs to serve multiple applications / use cases - including Aero, Land, Maritime, Gov, Enterprise, Cellular Back Haul, LDR/IoT
• Establish a unique/differentiated 'look and feel' for terminal housing/packaging vs target sector, working with Intelsat Marketing team on the branding and positioning
• Apply industrial design principles, concept trade-off,
• Support technical proposal development and cost/schedule estimating
• Support the engagement and collaboration with 3rd party Terminal manufacturers / integrators
• Support BoM, drive cost optimization to meet target price points
• Support the development and approval of business cases for new Terminal Product development initiatives within the agile Product Development framework
• Understand the competitive landscape, including competitor user terminal solutions
• Track industry trends and identify potential partnership opportunities and that will impact target verticals
• Support the development and management of key terminal vendor relationships

You should definitely have:

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design
• At least 5-years of user terminal/user hardware design experience in the telecoms sector with a demonstrated track record of successful HW prototype and production design
• A solid understanding of creative Product and service design for communication systems
• Experience optimizing user HW design and functioning to deliver target CX, as part of E2E system
• A lean-agile mindset that prioritizes outcomes over outputs while aligning distributed teams toward the same
• The ability to support product / portfolio vision including defining the initiatives and experiments necessary to realize the same
• Understanding of Satcoms and mobile communications technologies and concepts
• Technical proficiency, to successfully collaborate with Engineering and Architecture teams on the development of new Product concepts
• Able to collaborate in a complex development and business environment and enjoy being part of a team that thrives on delivering exceptional products that provide value to the customer and the organization
• Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain and influence internal and customer working relationships
• High degree of organization, individual initiative, and personal accountability
• Strong decision making, problem solving, analytical and organizational skills
• Understanding of financial concepts to assist in business case development
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage, influence, and inspire partners and stakeholders to drive collaboration and alignment
• Flexibility to work in a rapidly changing environment and lead a team through change
• Experience with tools like Jira, Miro board, Jama, etc.

It would be nice if you had:

• Experience working with satellite and terrestrial networks and technologies
• Experience in Ku/Ka band satellite terminal development
• Experience working in a global company
