Job Description

Responsible for providing administration, technical solutions, critical incident management and daily operational support to global application and infrastructure groups. This individual will be responsible for enhancing and maintaining various monitoring systems to enable proactive management for internal and external applications. This role will be heavily involved in using tools and technology to implement solutions that enable software system to recommend or automate data-driven decisions. 1. Participate in the design, configuration, development, integration, testing, implementation, documentation and support of Infrastructure & Application Monitoring environments 2. Create solutions, using big data tools, which increase stability, create clarity, and reduce the operational costs of highly visible applications and software systems for Northern Trust 3. Oversee the health of monitoring environment by keeping current with upgrades and patches and by troubleshooting and resolving issues with associated tools 4. Lead troubleshooting, analysis, and solution of unexpected systems behaviors that impact the quality of service 5. Enable the feedback loop between development and support teams to continuously improve the APM implementation 6. Work closely with application teams to gather requirements and ensure proper instrumentation 7. Seasoned multi-disciplinary expert with extensive technical and / or business knowledge and functional expertise 8. Focus of role is on execution of strategic direction of business function activities 9. Carries out complex initiatives involving multiple disciplines and/or ambiguous issues 10. Displays a balanced, cross-functional perspective, liaising with the business to improve efficiency, effectiveness and productivity • A College or University degree in Computer Science and/or relevant proven work experience is required. Experience with monitoring tools (Pandora FMS preferred) on multiple platforms and operating systems preferred. Experience installing and administering monitoring applications in Unix, Linux, and Windows environments including debugging and command line. Experience with Data Science tools (e.g. Splunk ITSI, Splunk Machine Learning Toolkit, etc.) and Data Transformation and Conformal Mapping/Decomposition Statistical Analysis with R, Matlab, Octave, or other scripting language. • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required • Highly flexible and adaptable to change • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as CA's APM Suite, HP's SiteScope, Zabbix, Nagios, System Center Operations Manager, Smarts InCharge, etc; application or infrastructure monitoring. • Knowledge of monitoring middleware including WebLogic and/or .Net application servers, MQ Series, and databases • Leadership and organizational skills are required to determine the Business Unit's goals, resources needed, and to assess and develop the skills of staff.
